Carrie's Story
I am again at a crossroads. My place of employment, The Home Depot Customer Contact Center, has closed. After over 6 years with the same company, I need to find a new career.
I will be taking advantage of the Tampa Bay Work Force Alliance's offer to fund additional schooling/training, in what, I'm not yet sure.
Been leaning toward Database Administrator, but worry that that job, too, will be outsourced overseas. Plus, I have no background in IT, although I've been advised it's not necessary for the position. I do, however, have a useless Bachelor's Degree in English.

hnical writing jobs with them. Those with lots of experience scrambled for the remaining jobs, and got them, it seems.
Trying to figure out what I should do now. Not a happy place to be in at this stage of life. But sort of exciting at the same time.
Researching jobs expected to grow and not likely to be outsourced in the next few years.
The search continues. Wish me luck.
UPDATE: The Workforce Alliance came through and I'm now attending TechSkills to learn database administration.
My exaggerated confidence in my ability to learn new things may be sorely tested. It seems time has added a few extra gaps and roadblocks in the brain and I'll have to work twice as hard as I thought I would. But can't let this opportunity pass me by.
