Carrie's Story

I always wanted to be a nurse when I grew up. My family and friends thought that I was really good with people. As it turns out, I went to college to study to be a social worker at LaRoche College. I later tranferred into nursing to have my BSN with a minor in Gerantology. I later went to medical assisting school because I only needed my practical nursing skills and was on a list that was about 2 years long. :( I did not like feeling like I was in limbo so I looked into Western School. I first started Pgh campus but moved in Feb 1991 to Monroville there I finished up. In 1991 I graduated with honors with a medical assistant degree from Western School of Health and Business. I worked at a doctors office for about 2 years. I often worked 39 hours between 2 hospitals with along work week. Summer of 1989 I met my now husband we dated 2 years and then got married. After I was married about 6 months I found out I was expecting I then had my daughter in March 1992. In September 1993 I had my son John 17 1/2 months apart. I've never had a dull moment with my kids. Everything has to be fair if one gets something the other does too. When get stressed I like to clean. I know it sounds strange you may ask how can it make me feel better? Well somehow it helps. I also might take a walk outside on the porch to get some air. If I'm going to work somewhere, I need fun, clean safe place, and respect my creativity and my abitities to be able to deal with the day-to-day. My inspiration comes from those who continue to push on despite odds. I admire people for instance that live with a chronic illness. I also admire those who make a better life by example. Montell Williams and David Landers (squiggy from Laverne/shirley) they are both famous ms survivors) The one person from my past who I'd most like to see again is my dad because I think he'd be proud of me and to meet his grand-kids. I'm not sure what I like right now on T.V....for sure Steeler footballand during the week whatever catches interest. I still like CSI and reruns with Grissom. (I find those addicting) and some others. I have learned to like UFC and Tap out some of my hubby's favorites so I like them too. If I get a chance t.v. is no problem I'll watch it later. Which happens alot . My programs aren't always the kind everyone likes people get flicking as soon as I leave the room for a sec. I get tired of fussing ,so whatever is on is good. I get a laugh with some Nickeloden and Disney shows. My biggest surprise is that I have 3 children. I was sure I'd be too scared to even have 1. I have been married 17 years which has been great. For most of it has gone too quick. Time goes by quick man.. I recommend keeping an open mind and allow God into your life to help you and keep you on track. Expect unexpected and never give up. I have been a schoolbus driver which was amazing and still greatful for the opportunity. It is fun I also had some cool charters like Mario Lemeuix golf tournament 2 years in a row. yes, little me drove a 72 passanger. The last 2 years of driving I had the same before/after school route with Wilson Christian Academy. My favorite job is working in childcare and knowing I got to share ...Expand for more
in some goodtimes. for about 7 years now I volunteer at my church and teach a class on Wednesday evening for pre-schoolers. They learn through stories, crafts, and play about God's love and earn badges for their accomplishments. They earn badges a year for 9 total Sept-June 1 each month of lesson. Graduate can earn up to 27 in three years of my program. The kids start out at 3yrs. and end at 5 or kindergarten. I am a 4 year volunteer for Three Rivers Hospice. I spend about 2 hours a week visiting a local nursing home and sometimes I help serve lunch and feed a patient or just be a smiling face. In 1998 I deliverd my son Alex 9 weeks premature. Noone could explain. He was 3lbs 8 oz. very sweet. He stayed at the hospital 34 days. He was healthy but tiny. When John was turning 5 I started with headaches and sensitiviy to lights. My doctors said eh ...........allergies. Here my vision was fading . Then I had needed an MRI I was then told results were conclusive for MS. I am a Multiple-Scleroisis survivor. Some Important Facts about MS : MS is a chronic, unpredictable neurological disease that affects the central nervous system. Different people are likely to experience very different symptoms. MS is different from muscular dystrophy (MD), which is a group of disorders that cause progressive and irreversible wasting away of muscle tissue. Although MD has some symptoms in common with MS¿such as weakness and problems with walking¿MD affects the muscles directly while MS affects the central nervous system. MS is not contagious and is not directly inherited Most people with MS have a normal or near-normal life expectancy. The majority of people with MS do not become severely disabled. There are now FDA-approved medications that have been shown to reduce the number of relapses and "modify" or slow down the underlying course of MS. Diagnosed in August 1999. I have overcome many affects of this mysterious sometimes debilitationg disease. I wanted to give some facts so those reading this would better understand about MS. if you'd like to learn more please goto ... look up the nationalmssociety I have had optic-neuritus which affects vision. i have had Balance issues in which I had to learn how to walk with fore-arm crutches at one point I was weak and used a wheeled-walker and have a jazzy-chair. I have even had to give myself injections to help lesson the progression. I have also tried a mild form of chemotherapy(Novantron) to get my immune system a boost. Now since 2003 I am medicine free I no longer use any cane or power chair. I believe stepping out and using my talents I have been blessed in return. I've always wanted big things, but now I know money isn't everything. Live for today and take each day as if was the last. Believe in yourself and don't worry that you may not have everything. You have yourself and you'd be surprised if you let God in it all gets taken care of,but in his time. Thanks to all who visit. Never give up. I know God is Good. Don't judge you never know what's in store for you. I would like to thank those who visit. I want to stay in touch with a few drop me a note or reply on my message board. hope all stay well. ttfn Carrie :D
