Carroll's Story
Stumbling on to Classmates.com really was a great thing for me. As you can tell from my list of schools. I have spent most of my life far away from my birth place of Glendive, MT.
I was born and raised on the John Hill horse and cattle ranch 30 miles south of Glendive. My dad, John, raised and raced Thoroughbred in the horse racing events at Glendive and other venues, such as Spokane Washington.
We also participated in local rodeos, saddle club play days and high school rodeos. My life has been intricately bound to the noble horse.
My first marriage to Dan Handran in Glendive 1967 made it 28 years, had 5 kids. We looked like the perfect family, kids on the honor roll, volunteer work for the church and community etc.
We moved around a lot: Bozeman, Wolf Point, Glendive, Baker, Gardiner, back to Baker. I was a stay at home mom and helped out in Dan's CPA work. We left MT in 1986, moving to Weiser ID. Stayed 3 years, moved to Coos Bay OR in 1989.
I always had lots of kids, critters, and other fun things to keep me interested in life. Cooking, knitting, sewing, gardening, horses, tropical fish, African Violets, dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, and frog, turtles. I could go on!
About the time I turned 40, things were starting to bother me about the marriage. We divorced in 1995 in Coos Bay OR.
Oh, yes that's when I got my pet snake, Rosy. I went to Oregon State and got my BS in Archaeology. I met Grad student, Bob Cromwell, who had his Masters in Archaeology. ...Expand for more
He got accepted for His PhD in Syracuse U in NY. Since I could get some Archaeology experience, and be with someone who was good to me, I went to NY for 2 years. Bob was recruited by the National Park Service and started his research here in vancouver WA. We have been together since 1997. Bob got his PhD in 2004!
Bob and I married in 2001. Although Bob is 23 years younger than me, we share many interests it is amazing. The age thing doesn't even get noticed. I seem younger, and he seems older. We are happy with our pets, Rosey and the 2 dogs.
I have 8 grandkids that live quite a distance away. Don't get to see them much.
I love being an archaeologist/anthropologist. My specialty is Osteology, which is the study of bones, both human and animal. I have had a lot of experience in Historic Archaeology specifically in the Pacific Northwest Hudson's Bay Company. This sort of makes me an expert at identifying rusty metal, broken glass, small pieces of ceramics.
I have continued designing and sewing as I did when I younger, like wedding attire, western shirts, quilts, draperies.I also custom designed historic clothing for re-enactment programs at Fort Vancouver NPS.
Because of some chronic health problems, I have scaled back on my career. I just try to keep on keeping on. I have a good life. BUT, I miss my friends and families that I lost track of because of time and moving. I hope to connect with many of you through classmates.com. I also just set up a facebook page.
