Catherine's Story
I went by Cathy Adkins(grade school only)/Chase,I was always into cars,the faster the better. I was not any where near a girly-girl, heck no,"TOMBOY" all the way. My father and Uncles raced at Portland Speedway,which is where I pretty much grew up. I had a few girl friends growing up, but I ran with the guys more. I was sort of like the "Ugly Duckling" so I had no desire to hang with the girls much. I worked on cars, rode motorcycles, shot pool, and was as tough as or tougher than most of the guys I ran with(especially for my size)ask Steve Jefferies, Mike Barney, Nitskie, or any of them. They can tell ya. Tom Thompson and Robert Miles, were two of my Best Friends in junior high. I was good friends with the Piccalo's, Caron's, Genieve and Vince Jones, the Wolf's;Nikki,Fred,and Debbie. I knew the Robies, the Jefferies, Maupins, Farley's, and so forth. Used to hang out at the Arcade and Silver Skate. I lived on 101st and Bell Dr.

I went from building cars in the '70 & '80's, to concessions, till I hooked up with a carnival, started traveling with them. At first I wasn't into all that much, until I graduated from; "The Games" and "Kid Land." Moved up to the "Majors." The first woman, in the History of the Show,(which was also the third generation owned,) to work the big rides. It was totally awesome, a few years later I moved up to the "Specs."
I used to tell, teasingly, people that all of those guys that had gas powered, remote/radio controlled cars, planes, boats, or any other toys like such, couldn't hold a candle to my toys. My toys made thier toys look like those plastic playskool push about toys. ;}
I decided to give up the traveling to be close to my grandkids and my mother/other family members who have been very sick. That way I could help take care of them. I couldn't stand not working with/in rides, or with the kids and people that came to have fun. So, I applied at "Oaks Park." Almost as good as being out on the road. I absolutely loved it there, but I got injured, Aug'07, and had to retire from there.
