Cathryn Bearov:  

Graduated from Coe College (Cedar Rapids, IA) in 1981. Major: Music History graduated from University of Chicago 1987 with a Master of Library Science. Married August 1987 to Paul Baker. Two children: Hannah born 1990 and Rachel born 1992. Started divorce proceedings in 2001 and finally finished in August 2005. What a ride! Employed by Chicago Public Library from 1990 to the 30 June 2022. Head of the Social Sciences and History Department at the main library of the Chicago Public Library system from Sept. 2018 until leaving.. Held other positions in other libraries and worked in other occupations (house renovations, landscaping, roofing, restauranteur, professional baker, retail) on the way to library school. As planned, starting as Project Manager with online marketing firm owned by former client from my free lance editing business (July 2022.). It's kind of fun to live in one of the most corrupt states in the union with an economic picture that is worse than California's and Mississippi's. This is not exactly how I imagined life would go. I suspect many would say the same about their lives. For over 20 years, my main hobby has been Sacred Harp singing. I used to go all around the country to participate in singings, but COVID put a stop to that. Besides, my voice finally gave out and I can no longer sing., a major sorrow in my life . My traveling money mostly gets used in other ways instead. I had breast cancer in 2004, It came back in December 2007. We'll see if it strikes a 3rd time. I'm mostly happy with how life turned out. I worked in the career I always wanted for nearly all of my working life. We'll see what I think of the new gig.. My children are turning out alright, although the older one really put me through some serious trouble. After a period of relative stability, she is back to making me very worried. My younger daughter graduated on Mother's Day 2015 from my own alma mater: Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She moved to Iowa City in July 2017 and works in a local bank..
