CLASS OF 1962

Cathy's Story

I lived in East York for many years of my youth. My brother (JOHN) and I attended R.H. McGregor, Cosburn Jr High and then East York C.I. I married an Englishman in 1966 and became Catherine Arden. We returned to London, England where my new husband, Chris, went to study Zoology at London University. We returned for a year to Toronto after he graduated but decided we both wished to live in the UK. We have lived back in the UK since 1970, in Somerset where Chris worked and we brought up 3 children. When our youngest left home we decided to do what my husband Chris had always really wanted to do. That was to open an Antiquarian Bookshop. We moved to Hay-on-Wye in Wales (noted for its old bookshops) and opened, then, 1 of 32 bookshops. We specialised in Natural History and Botany books. We ran this successfully for a number of years as C. Arden, Bookseller meeting people from all ...Expand for more
over the world as well as posting some of our books all over the world. We have now handed over our business to our son-in-law. Sadly, we lost our much loved daughter, Claire, who had come into the business with us with our son-in-law, Darren. We felt it was only right to hand over to Darren and provide a good business that would allow him to bring up our granddaughter (Claire and Darren's little girl). Now retired, Chris & I live near the top of a lovely Welsh Hill overlooking the 'Black Mountains' and near the Brecon Beacons National Park. Apart from the sudden loss of our daughter, I have had a happy life. Chris & I celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary next year. We were married in St.Andrew's Church (Danforth & Jarvis) in Toronto and will probably visit it when we arrive back in Toronto to see my brother and his family in September 2015. Does anyone remember my old self???
