Cathy's Story
Life
I have been married to Kaelin Mahnke since December of 2000. We have a son, Matthew David, born in September of 2001. My daughter, Krystyna Elayne Carter, is living in Juneau. My son William Michael Carter will be 31 in July. He is currently working in Juneau, where he lives with his wife. Kaelin has three children as well -- Sierra, Mercedes and Corbin. They are 32, 30, and 27. They live in Wasilla. Sadie has a son, Zxander, daughter Zxaylynn, and son, Zxy. Kaelin and I "met in jail", as he retired from corrections in January 2010, and I retired from corrections in April 2017.
Other than that? We have a house in Delta Junction, We have a couple of Dodge trucks, four-wheelers, and a boat. My parents live in Delta Junction also.
College

raduated from UAF in December of 1985, with a BA in criminal justice. I minored in journalism. In 1986, I returned to UAF and earned my elementary teaching certificate. In 1997, I was accepted into a masters program at UAA. When the state offered me a job as a correctional officer, I went to work instead.
Workplace
I've held several jobs since graduation from CHS. I've worked in retail and daycare, edited the newspaper in Delta Junction, and taught school. In 1997 I was hired as a correctional officer, and was a Sergeant at Lemon Creek Correctional Center in Juneau, assigned to a shift supervisor position. In April 2017, I retired with 20 years of service and moved to Delta Junction. Since October 2018, I have been a teller at Mt. McKinley Bank.
