Cathy's Story
Wow! I'm actually living my earlier days! Last year I started teaching at Beach Elementary, the absolute best school in the world. The walls talk to me daily since I spent my first six years of school there. It hasn't changed much and when they say "You can't go home again" they were wrong this time. And so... for Mike Peterson, Barbara Hartman, Bruce Green, Karen Dennis, Gayle Rose, Peter Ringsmuth, Patty Bradford, Linda & Lydia Lowell and all the others of you out there, it's still a wonderful place for kids...Expand for more
to grow up, feel recognized and get a great education. The teacher I'd love to see again? I walk past their ghosts every day: Mrs. Hogue, Mrs. Dennis, Miss Bird, Mrs. Kennedy, Mrs. Wadlin, Miss Bassett, and the most difficult Mrs. Campau. They still linger. This makes me know how important being a teacher is: I am still being influenced by these women after 50 years. So what impact will I have long after I am gone also? I think about this every day and it guides me in trying to be the best teacher I can be.
