Cathy's Story
Life
I've been living in a suburb of Cincinnati since 1990. Got my Associates Degree at TCC in 1981; worked as an Occupational Therapy Assistant at Oak Forest Hospital for 3 years. Got my BA in Psychology in 2003. Worked on the Psych Unit at Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati for 22 years before retiring in 2016.
Two kids - son Rory was born in 1985 and graduated from OSU with a degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering. He has lived in Columbus OH, Evanston IL, and now Pompano Beach FL. He is the amazing dad of my only granddaughter, Erin, who was born on 4/5/2011. My daughter Alicia was born in 1988. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago in 2011 with her BSW and from OSU in 2012 with her Masters in Social Work. She lives on the North Side of Chicago with husband Matt and works at the Chicago Food Depository with the agencies that serve children and youth. I also have 3 wonderful stepsons and 5 precious step-grandchildren. What a beautiful family - I am so blessed!
Married to Jim Cooper in 1996. He was an Electrical Engineer but retired in 2013. We met doing music at church. I converted to Catholicism in 1993 (sorry Ivanhoe Methodist Church!). I am a cantor (songleader/soloist) and Jim is a guitarist/singer at St. Michael Church in Sharonville OH.
Our favorite activity is traveling. Our favorite vacation spot is in Costa Rica (we've been there 8 times) but we have also suffered through St. Kitts (6 times), Puerto Vallarta (5 times), Hawaii (twice), Aruba, Barbados, St. John USVI, Cabo, etc. Not usually cruisers but we have gone through the P...Expand for more
anama Canal and did a repositioning cruise from Fort Lauderdale to Rome. You can tell we love the ocean and warm weather! Also, our St. Michael church choir has toured Europe FIVE times! Italy in 2004, Austria/Germany in 2009, Scotland/England in 2014, France in 2019, and again to Italy (Sicily) in 2024. Aside from the choir tours we've been to France, Portugal, Italy, Ireland, and Barcelona on our own.
I love to sing, write, read, and craft, and I am busy all of the time. Jim and I enjoy doing home projects together, and he is also the handyman and car mechanic for most of our friends and neighbors. He's one of those guys who can do almost anything. So with our amazing family, our loving friends, and our many activities we have a life that is full of joy and purpose.
Even after 31 years I still really miss the Chicago area. My mom moved here in 1991 but passed away in 2000. Cincinnati has provided a wonderful home for us, lots of friends, many opportunities, and a great education for my kids - but it still doesn't have the tempo and character of Chicago. It still doesn't feel like home!
I would love to hear from anyone from "back in the day". Anyone out there like to reminisce about Concert Choir, Mr. Campbell, Mrs. French, Madrigals, Klefs, etc.? Remember Mrs. Welke? Yikes - she physically attacked me! I loved Mr. McGee despite the fact that he taught Algebra. And I tolerated Miss Nelson because she personally invited me to be in her Honors English class. I hated gym class - every freaking day! Remember those swimming suits? Frightening!
