Cathy's Story
Life:
After graduation from West Geauga High School, Cathy continued working in Chesterland at Kenny King's Restaurant. She made the stupid decision not to go to college because she "just couldn't handle any more school crap." Leaving her daily ration of KFC behind she moved down Mayfield Road slightly to NAPA/Carriage Auto Supplies. She started off as a delivery girl but was soon at the front counter selling auto parts. During her 5 years there she continued to be involved in local theater performing mostly in musicals like Chicago, Hair, Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and Steppin' Out. Many times with her best friend Debi Lewin. When she wasn't singing and dancing on stage then she was dancin under the disco ball every Tuesday nite at The Cosmopolitan and every weekend at Utopia, both in Willoughby. Her next career stop was at JC Penney's cosmetic counter which led to a position as a cosmetics rep/make-up artist. She was also working part-time cocktail waitressing at The Encore Grill. That turned into her full-time job when the nitelife became too much of a pull. When Encore (sadly) closed she took her cocktails to the next hottest dance club around, Animal Crackers. By this time she had fallen hard for Jeff who was accepted to NYU film school. After a long distance relationship for a year Cathy packed up and moved to New York City. There she worked for an international actuarial firm starting as receptionist and ending up the director of telecommunications. After 8 years there she took a job as personal assistant to Bruce Kovner, Chairman of a prestigious investment firm. She also attended Marymount Manhattan College at night. During her 10 years living in Manhattan she ended her long term relationship with Jeff and then met her future husband. Cathy was workin...Expand for more
g a 2nd job again to make ends meet (NY is extremely expensive.) This time at a video store where she met Matt the store manager. Two years later Cathy Wellek became Mrs. Cathy Walsh, convienently keeping her monogram intact.
In January of 1998 Cathy's Mom, Mary died very suddenly. While Cathy was home for the funeral, her Father Bruce collapsed. He was already ill but the fall was the beginning of the end. Cathy and Matt quickly threw everything they owned into a moving truck and moved into her childhood home on Caves Road again. Her father never recouperated and after almost 6 months of continuous hospitalization Bruce passed away. The Walshes spent all of their free time and money trying to repair the neglected house they found themselves in. They are still there today. They were unsuccessful in the baby department but maternal urges being what they are Cathy discovered her great love of dogs. Her "kids" are fuzzy but very precious to her. Samantha (yellow Lab), Malley (Chocolate Lab) and Cooper (Harlequin Great Dane 150 pounds.) Cathy is employed at Burton Carol Management (formerly Consolidated Management) a property management firm. Matt is a Veterinary Technician at the Animal Emergency Clinic in Mentor. Cathy's hobbies include hanging out with friends, movies & scrapbooking. Although she is mostly out of "Show Biz," she was in the original cast of singers at Pickwick & Frolic in downtown Cleveland. During her run there, she also had the pleasure of singing the national anthems at both the Gund Area and (the highlite for Cathy) at a sold out Cleveland Indians game at Jacob's Field. All in all, Cathy has seen a lot, done a lot and lived a lot. She looks forward to receiving emails from all her old classmates and finding out what others have been up to!
