Cathy's Story
Life
I have been married to the same man since July of 1977. We have 2 children, our son Bobby who was born in 1981 and our daughter who was born in 1983.
We have lived in Chesapeake, also since 1977.
I manage the office in my Dads Auto Repair Shop in Norfolk along with my sister Dana. It is a small family business.
I would like old friends to remember that I have always been someone they could trust to be loyal and to be there when they needed me.
If I get angry about something, which I hardly ever do. I like to go somewhere alone and listen to my music. It always calms me down, and makes me think that things could always be worse. I feel blessed for the life that God has allowed me to share.
I wasn't really a wild person.
I would have to say my life's inspiration came from my Grandmothers. They were both very special people in my life and I hope to think I would never do anything to let them down.
My family has been in Chesapeake since August of 1977. It has been my home since getting married and moving away from Virginia Beach.
The person from my past that I enjoyed spending time with is Helen, we were very close friends.
My obsessions, I am very close to my grand-puppy. But I guess I would have to say my family comes first before anything else. I always want to keep in touch with all family members. I love learning about genealogy.
The biggest surprise in my life that I can recall this moment? The family threw us a 25th wedding anniversary party, that was very unexpected, and oh yeah, my 40th birthday party was such a surprise that I was going to wait in the vehicle while my husband had to convince me I needed to go upstairs at the shop. I was totally unaware!!!
I have learned patience from my children, the more you give the better you get. It took me a few years, but it has been well worth it. (Thanks Ms. Pauline)
My favorite teacher and always will be is Mrs. Thompkins (3rd grade). I really loved her. She was so good with us kids, like a grandmother.
I am very happy here, at home with Smitty, and Omi and Dennis, and Bobby and Codie next door. I love my family. I know things have to change. I just want everyone to be safe and happy as long as possible.
I sit at a desk and listen to peoples experiences with their cars. I try to help them the best I can, and then it is turned over to a technician. Then I have to call them with the diagnosis. I enjoy talking with people, but I do not like giving bad news, which is what I have to do a lot of times. Most people are very understanding, and they have great trust in my Dads opinion. My first crush was Joey Eubanks, I will never forget him. He had the prettiest blond(white)hair. And he liked me also, at Coleman Place Elementary. But, I do not know what happened to him?
I think my best friend would tell you I'm loyal, and honest, but people who don't know me very well would probably describe me as quiet, maybe a little strange.
There is one thing I feel very bad about, that is the way I acted when I thought I wanted to break up with Lee. I was very immature. If I could do that over again, I would do it so differently. I just wasn't ready to grow up at that time. Forgive me for the way I treated you.
If I won $100 million, I'd probably give some to my church, then I would pay off my house and pay all my kids bills, and my parents, and do the best I could with it. BUT, I would not buy a Hybrid vehicle. The dangerous information I have learned about them really turns me against them. I know there is a better way out there. Whoever designed them did not take in to consideration how dangerous they can be to the driver, or the technician, or the wrecker. They also did not take into consideration about the cost of a battery, which is totally ridiculous, approximately $5,000.00. Like I said before, there has got to be a better way. Oh, yeah, we can't forget about the safety to the rescue people trying to pry the car open to get the people out of a wrecked hybrid.
I always wanted to be a teacher when I grew up. My family and friends thought that was a good idea. As it turns out, they were right. I don't think I would have liked working for the public school system. I am a Sunday School teacher for 3rd through 6th graders and I really enjoy it.
If I'm going to work somewhere, I need to have patience , understanding , and trust to be able to deal with the day-to-day problems.
There are a lot of memories that I really hope I do not forget. One I will share now: Playing spin the bottle at one of Pats party's. They were always interesting and there I met Keith Young. He was younger than me, but we had so much in common. Age did not matter. We spent a lot of time together, and also Timmy Bethard, another early love interest.
I have to add that I have become a grandmother, I love it so much. I love spending time with my grandson, he is such a blessing to our family. He is beautiful and so very smart and very healthy. I thought I knew what I was missing til the day he was born, I am so thankful to God and my daughter Omi and her husband Dennis for God's blessing, Declan.
