Cavan's Story

Life Hello, I'm Cavan Kerr O'Donnelly; I've had an interesting, if not always palatable, life. I was born on September 13, 1986, at 6:03 A.M. at Milford Hospital. Despite being born in Milford, I lived for the first eight years of my life in the neighboring town of Stratford, Connecticut. Things were pleasent, then; at age four, we got a dog, whom we named "Crenshaw" (after the mellon, of course), and he remians our suitably eccentric pet to this day. My Mother and Father worked variously in journalism and in retail (and, in the case of my Dad, in radio and as an actor). I was cheerful, and I enjoyed being educated at Stratford Academy, the local magnet school, where I had many friends, and possibly even could have been deemed "cool". Unfortunely, this is where my horrid tendancy to irritate people, especially girls (later women) I was attracted to, developed. After many years of doing this, I have become very nervous in social settings (I'm even insecure here at Classmates -- part of why I'm writing this is to explain myself/appologize to them, several of whom I know are members here, too). Anyways, it was in late 1993, early 1994 that I found out that my family and I were going to move in several months time. It seems that our landlord was still hurting from the Reagan/Bush I era recession, and as such was forced to sell our abode. I did not take it well. On October 1, 1994, about a month after I began third grade, we moved to Milford, the city of my birth. This transition did not go well. We were living in a small, filthy house that broke scads of health codes, with mice, rickety stairs and huge bags of cat litter in the basement (I kid you not). Dad became very sick. I was ostrocized at my new school, Orange Avenue, for being a new (odd) kid amongst old, frequently cruel, friends. I became even more depressed, I started gaining weight, and my grades suffered. Things got better after we moved to a safer house, but they got worse again when in fifth ...Expand for more
grade I wound up with an abusive teacher, and as such became an utter wreck. I began to see a therapist, as well as a psychiatrist, so things began looking up. However, things got far worse in the years to come. In sixth grade, I started at a new school, Harborside, and I began to suffer from emotional "blow-ups," but despite this, I started making more friends. Then, in Spring 1998, my Mom was diagnosed with Leukemia, and we were moving again. In late 1999, I was put on Prozac, and began to become emotionally unstable. In early 2000, I spent some time at the Yale Psychiatric Institute after attempting suicide. It was only years later when the nature of Prozac and other "S.S.R.I.s" was scandalously revealed -- they can cause people to become violent, harming themselves and/or others. After Prozac, I was emotional road kill. While at Y.P.I., they briefly considered me to be Bipolar, due to my wild mood swings whilst in the throws of Prozac. While they quickly ruled this out, they kept me on Depakote, a drug given to treat Biplar Disorder. This gave me a de facto labotomy until my psychiatrist took me off of it about a year later. But the damage was done. I was now at Jonathon Law High School, and from what little I can remember about the first half of ninth grade, and I acted appallingly to everyone I encountered; I don't think I'll ever stop being shameful of that year. I also wound up in J.L.H.S.'s Special Ed. classes, some of the most mind-numbing days I have ever spent in a classroom. Karma, perhaps? I went through the tenth grade somewhat okay, but I crashed and burnt in eleventh. Also, after Mom's cancer had gone into remission, Dad became afflicted with Lymphoma (which he recently surpassed). I also spent my senior year of high school in an academic leper colony in Trumbul, the name of which I shant breath to you. I only returned to Jonny Law for it's last week or so. Now we're moving again, and I'm hoping to get into the New York Film Academy.
