Cavett's Story
Life
Vagabond days after high school (ricochet through Austin, Central America, Memphis, Houston) ended with the onset of school age for kids SeeJack (1972), Maria (1973) and Quentin (1975). The grandson line-up includes Wade (2000), Lewis (2001) and Garrett (2002). I completed a degree in music composition from North Texas and course work in jazz arranging before moving to the Bay Area to accept a job managing telefundraising and direct sales for American Conservatory Theater (A.C.T.) in San Francisco. I freelance as a musician and writer, and currently play keyboards in a Berkeley-based rock band called the Ravines. I like to look back on changes in popular music and civil rights. son named Miller, and the City of Oakland Public Works Agency gave me a job. I'm an administrative analyst in Parks and Buildings, and still playing in the Ravines.
School
My biggest crush was on the guy I married. That started the summer after high school and ended in 1983. I loved my english teachers Mrs. Knieff and Mrs. Hughes. When I got married, it was cool that I got to be Mrs. Hughes, too. Both teachers are my friends now. I don't want to struggle through high school again. Anything having to do with music was the best part of high school and just about everything since. I do remember going to see Jimi Hendrix with a bunch of kids from White. We sat on the last row at the very top of Memorial Auditorium downtown and became experienced.
Military
I was #9 in the draft lottery.
