Liz (Cecelia )'s Story

Life Those of you who read my bio should know that I went by Cecelia McPherson for 17 years of my life, all the way up to my senior year in high school at Highland. Some of my oldest and dearest friends know me by my nickname, which I am not going to reveal! I decided to go by my first name, Elizabeth, when I entered high school in California. It it hard to believe that so much time has gone by. I hope that time has been good to all of you! I thought I would write a few words about me. I am still married to my husband of 32 years. He builds homes locally. As you might suspect, the business has really slowed down. We have one fabulous grown child. She has a degree in art but sells insurance. She now has 2 businesses of her own that she is currently developing. She is a wonderful painter. I have taught school for 33 years, first through sixth grade. Most recently, I have taught visual and performing arts.....VAPA. My own personal art has really grown this past eight years. I will be retiring from teaching this year and working in my studio. Of course, I plan to travel, do volunteer work and just live a more unscheduled life. I might write a book with a fellow teacher, who has the same outlook on what a classroom should look like these days. Unfortunately, there is too much teaching to the left brain. Enough about me, I would love to hear from you! Well, here it is March, 2008. I have really enjoyed hearing from some of my friends from our school or work days! After being retired for 9 months, I am starting to feel relaxed and rested. Sleeping in has made a new person out of one. I love watching my girlfriends on, "The View". Just kidding, of course. My family likes to go out to lunch and just run errands. We are planning a trip to ocean in the near future. I am pleased to say I have lost 17 pounds since I have been out of school. I believe it is partly being away from all the fabulous treats that used to brought to school from parents and teachers alike. The stress of not working has helped. I chose what I eat and eat lots of good foods with nutrition. Fortunately, I have to replace my wardrobe, but I still love to just hang around in blue jeans. I have adopted a 97 year old lady in a nearby nursing home. Her family is fairly dysfunctional,so, I try to look in on her a lot and take little surprises to her. On holidays, I do art with the residents of the home who...Expand for more
are capable and then do the same project with my dear friend's first graders. Now, all that is just so interesting and it is hard to believe the comparison. They are alike in some ways. It gives me such great joy. I did visit my former school recently and chatted with all my little and big friends. That was such a wonderful experience, too. I was terrifc to visit but good to go home with no responsibility. My art is still very important to me. I am getting ready to do a sunset series that I am very excited about. I am selling some of my fabulous junque and rare stuff on Ebay. Nothing rare, just stuff. My family is doing great and that gives me such peace. It is now June, 2009. I am almost 60 years old. Fortunately, there are quite a few baby boomers, teaching buddies and associates that will hit 60 as well. I will be giving a large party for myself! Actually, I will be doing my famous white elephant purse exchange. These parties make me laugh so hard that I cry. I will let you all know what the most outrageous purse is! This gathering is a celebration of life and being a woman! My buddy, Nancy and I went to Las Vegas recently and stayed at the Encore. I sm s week older than she is and we're celebrated being 60 and working together 20+ years. What an amazing place with all those butterflies. We saw several shows, but the Elvis and Michael Jackson impersonators really got our attention. There was no gambling for me, but Nancy won $125. We are hoping to go to England and Ireland soon. Nancy is bigtime Irish. She is probably the best 1st grade teacher I have ever known. I am still doing my volunteer work and doing painting lessons with the more capable residents at a local nursing home. My Ebay business is growing. A friend gave me some store items that he wants me to sell for him. I have an invention that I have been working on, and I am talking with a lawyer to see if it can be patented. Whatever the case, I will be selling it! My husband's building business has slowed down with the onset of this crazy economy. He loves to work on his landscaping, works on our rentals and trades stock! The more things you how to do in this economy the better! Enough about me, I would love to hear about you......even just a few little teeny tiny words. Wishing you love, peace, health and wealth. Take care and remember: Everything terrific and fine in 2009!
