Taking a break from classmates. If anyone wants to say Hi, email me at cwatercanyon at gmail dot com
Life
I went to Navy Boot Camp right after graduation - I wanted to work in a laboratory & thought this would be a way to travel & earn money for college.
I became a Navy Hospital Corpsman, working in laboratories, x-ray departments, medical clinics, drug & alcohol rehabilitation units, and lots of medical administration.
I traveled all over the country, and lived in Hawaii & Japan. From there I was able to visit Korea, Australia, the Philipines, and Singapore.
I retired in 1992 and moved to York, PA with my husband and sons. I attended Penn State full time through the VA and received an Associates of Letters, Arts & Sciences and a Bachelors of Humanities - Communication.
I have worked in software development, testing and Documentation since my graduation in 1996.
I enjoy motorcycling, camping, sight-seeing and traveling with my family. We had a half persian half siamese cat named Flame who lived until 19. I now have a Belgian Malinois (short haired Belgian shepherd).
My son Tom graduated in 1997 and joined the Marine Corps. His high school sweetheart did the same a year later. She is out now and is in college full time now. Tom moved to the Army and just returned from Iraq in May 2008. He has 3 kids now, Simon and Felicity and Alexander.
I moved back to Albuquerque in the fall of 2003 to help care for my parents. We bought a house in Dec. 2007 together, and Oscar, a native of Guatemala and I married Aug. 31 2008. Dad passed away Feb. 2009 and Mom passed in 2014.
Oscar and I moved back ...Expand for more
to PA so we can be closer to our grandkids and are active in their lives, now.
Workplace
ITS hired me for my Communications degree and military supply background. They needed a manual re-written for the computerized supply ordering system and thought I would be able to write better sentences and paragraphs than their tech programmers.
I was grateful that I had taken the time to take a few programming and network classes during my college years after the military. I ended up on a testing team - and was the lead writer by the end of the project.
As military contract were getting scarce I moved on to a local drug store chain - and nine months later their stock did a nose dive.
I worked for my husband for about 6 months installing electrical wiring, outlets, switches and smoke detectors. Then I worked for two .com companies and have come full circle back to the same office I started out in right after graduation. (Update - this husband passed away in 2008)
CSC had bought out ITS right before I left and a former boss had moved to this office. When I called to ask for his current email/phone as a reference, I jokingly asked if he had a job for me. I started the following Monday.
I've worked on some pretty sophisticated projects, including computerized warehouse management, user-friendly web site setups and document imaging. Two of the projects have been show-cased at PA state's annual IT Conference.
When I moved to Albuquerque I began working for a company that programs medical studies doing QA and graphic design of the medical questionnaires. I have had lots of business analyst jobs since then.
