Charlene's Story

College Began at VA Western, transferred to Dekalb College. Additional studies thru UGa. The wildest thing I think I ever did in school was apply for the Homecoming Court my senior year. I was truly shy while going to school and this took a great deal of courage. The thought of presenting myself scared the devile out of me. Although I did get some votes, I didn't make the court. I always envied the court members. I had two secret crushes. One was an upper class member, the other was in the same class as I was. The upper class member and I did eventually get together and although we didn't stay connected like I wanted, I'd like to think that he and and I are still friends - think about him alot. He's married with one child - college age now. The second crush I found out later actually had a crush on me but felt like I wouldn't go out with him. We were friends in school and we did run into each other several times after graduation. He's still a friend and we don't "see" each other, we do email each other. He's also married with a daughter. Although I'm married, I've never been blessed with children. Anyone who knew me, knew I wanted a hous...Expand for more
efull. But, alas, I have many neices and nephews and now great-neices and nephews to spoil. I still miss the fact I wasn't able medically to have kids. What really surprised me was in my first marriage, an active outside social life (party hardy) was the life. My second marriage is to someone who is a down home type person. He is what I call my "country" man. He took a city girl and taught the country life - farm-style living, using a chain saw, camping, how to build a house (which we did as well as remodel the remaining house) I've lived in Roanoke most of my life. The Atlanta area was my second home for a few years. Eventually I moved back to the Roanoke area and now make my home in Salem in my grandparents' former home. Other than a brief time in Bisbee Arizona when I was a small child, I've spent most of my time here in the Roanoke area. Loved Atlanta area - ALWAYS something to do and see. The friends I had in high school were most dear to me. There has only been one who I still see and talk to regularly. I would LOVE to hear from others who remember me, and hopefully, have fond members of our relationships. So does anyone remember me?
