Charles (Chuck)'s Story

Life After graduation, I attended San Jose City College and San Jose State Univ. I then entered the US Air Force as an aviation cadet resulting in being commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant and rated as a navigator. I went onto Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi to attend an Electronic Warfare Officer school where I also met my future wife, Jody. She was a college student nearby. We married in Chicago in 1961. After graduation from Keesler AFB, I was stationed at Shaw AFB, SC for 4 years. After 7 years in the AF and two children, my wife and I decided leave the AF and return to San Jose where I became an agent in 1965 with New York Life Insurance Company. We had our third and last child, a son, Scott, in 1969. He was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis in 1970 and later our youngest daughter Kim was also diagnosed with CF. Scott died at age 21 in 1990 and Kim underwent a double lung transplant(TX) at age 33. She has since married, bought a home near us and has a LIFE. That unfortunately only lasted 6 years for Kim died peacefully surrounded by friends and family at Stanford Hospital ICU Oct 26, 2004. She struggled bravely with many close calls. We feel fortunate to have had her for 40 years and that she was able to do so very much with her life. She met Michael Piscitello in 1993 and they married one year after TX. After marriage, they both changed their names to Nelson-Piscitello. About 350 attended the celebration of her life gathering November ...Expand for more
6th in Sunnyvale. Our oldest daughter, Tammy, is an actress/vocalist in the San Francisco theatre review Beach Blanket Babylon since 1993. Her role is understudy for the lead, Val Diamond. The show celebrated their 30th anniversary in 2004 AD. In Oct 2009, Val retired and Tammy became lead doing 7 weekly shows which run 1.5 hours each performance. The show is famous as a San Francisco icon. In 1965, I received a phone call asking for a Captain Nelson. There was an AF Reserve unit at Travis AFB looking for participants. I was interested in the position, accepted and subsequently held several assignments until my 1987 AF retirement in grade O5/Lt Colonel. I am semi-active in San Jose, CA as a life and disability insurance agent with New York Life. Military Entered the USAF Aviation Cadet program after college and earned navigator wings as a 2nd Lt. in Texas. Moved to Keesler AFB, Miss where I met my future wife, Jody (from Chicago)and became an Electronic Warfare Officer. Moved to my first assignment at Shaw AFB, SC where I remained for 4 years during which time I married Jody (In Chicago), and we had two girls by the time I left the AF and returned to San Jose, CA in 1965. In 1967, I received an offer to join the AF Reserve in a squadron located at Travis AFB. I stayed in that assignment until I retired in 1987 in grade O5. My current age is 72. When I was 12, I thought that people my age now would be dead. I was so completely naiive.
