Charles's Story
BS, Major in physics, U of Fla. '68; also took full year of piano & music theory senior year, as well as music appreciation & romantic musical literature to go with piano instruction I had taken in elementary & JH School. Tested for & accepted to Navy OCS, taught HS algebra & Physics in Springfield (Panama City) FL for a year while waiting for opening at OCS. After commissioning in '69 spent 6 months in Navy schools in San Francisco Bay Area then reported to guided missile cruiser USS Albany (CG10) [home-port Mayport (Jacksonville, Fla)] in europe & served as weapons tech. control officer on two Med deployments and several western atlantic exercises. Upon RAD, moved to LA (CA) basin to attend motorcycle mechanics school. While awaiting opening (due to over-enrollment) took a position at FMSAEG Navy lab in search radar analysis dept. After enrolling in & finishing school, worked as a mechanic in LA for two years, then moved to area north of San Francisco. While working almost full time, took two semesters of environmental studies classes at sonoma State U; mainly solar & alternative energy: direct uses, and Architectural Design and Energy Efficiency. ually bought some property on a hill overlooking a vineyard a couple of hours north of San Francisco and moved there. Took a break as a mechanic, and attended Sonoma State to pick up my CA 5th year teaching credential in Physical Sciences. Taught motorcycle maintenance & small engine repair in two counties for the local Junior College for a number of years. During the winters did a lot of subbing in local Junior Highs & HS. Finally took a job in a nearby power supply mfg. plant in fabrication & assembly, became production Mgr, & when plant folded 14 years later after the SHTF (9/11), took a shipping, receiving, warranty clerk job at a local home/car audio store until I retired. Finally sold my property and moved back to area where I was born. During all these years I have put ~230K miles total on several motorcycles and about 500K in a car & several pickups. I've attended many concerts and motorcycle evens/races on the West Coast as well as a number (mostly Daytona) on the east coast. I am now expanding on my photography hobby.& trying to work on restoring my older motorcycles, as well a couple of other hobbies as time on home improvement projects permit.
