Charles's Story

After graduating South Side in 1960, it was necessary to work in industry for about three years. But in 1964, I enrolled in the Industrial Arts / Technology program at Newark State College (Kean U). In 1966, I married my college sweetheart Winnie, and in 1970 we had our wonderful daughter, Lori. After graduating with a BA a position was taken teaching in Matawan Regional High school that lasted for thirty-two years. Along the way, a Masters Degree was obtained from Fairleigh Dickinson University and independent graduate work was conducted at Rochester institute of Technology. After retiring in 1998 I continued to teach TV productions at a school for adult education and produced shows for cable TV. In addition to teaching, a number of part-time businesses were engaged in starting with designing and building custom sculptural furniture. eral hundred magazine articles were produced on a wide range of topics. In 1994 a Second Degree Black Belt was earned and I then taught for a few years at a local Do Jo. Other hobbies included amateur Radio (WA2SLK), saltwater fishing, golf, sailing, and distance biking, an activity that is still practiced today. One hobby that has produced the most fun is flying. Having passed the FAA Private Pilot examination opened a truly amazing frontier that is actively experience almost weekly. Winnie and I recently celebrated our 50 wedding anniversary and are now blessed with two wonderful grandchildren. We have traveled the world with a lot of cruises to the Caribbean that remind us what warm weather is like in the middle of winter. Winnie is a professional violinist who recently retired from performing so that we have more time to spoil the grand kids. The only work being done now is that of conducting workshops and seminars on grant writing and non-profit funding. It is a fitting way to help the newer generations to reach their goals.
