Charles's Story
Life
I graduated from Cambridge Latin in 1965. I went to Boston State as I thought I wanted to teach, but I switched to a chemistry major. I met my wife to be in an Organic Chem lab and we went on to Boston College graduate school. See I did want to teach but I thought it was teaching at the college level that I might enjoy. I finished a Ph.D. in 1974 just in time for the recession and no jobs. I did teach at Concord Academy for several years before we had our first child, Christopher. However teaching and the expense of a child did not mix. Having done a lot of programming in graduate school I transferred to industry. Initially I worked at Raytheon in their air traffic control division (this division is where my wife, Eleanor,...Expand for more
works now). From Raytheon I worked at several small startup companies, Wang which got real big real fast, Stratus which got big slowly then collapsed , Digital Networks which was big, a really small company Geotel which was bought by Cisco a really big company.
My son, Christopher, was born in 1977 and my Daughter, Celena (moon goddess ---see Latin from Cambridge Latin) was born in 1981. Chris graduated from Boston College in 1999 and Celena is a graduaed in 2002 from Boston College. Boston College is not a tradition; it just worked this way by some strange twist of life. Chris majored in computer science and is working in Madrid Spain. My daughter, Celena is working in Portland Oregon.
I have retired from engineering.
