Charles's Story
Life
I lived in Berkeley for over 20yrs, after High School I attended The University of Kansas, came home and continued going to school at St. Louis Tech. Entered the working world with an Engineering Consualting Firm and have been in the related field since. During this time I met my wife, a graduate of Sanford Brown College. For whom I've been married to now over 20yrs. We have one child. We had a short stent out of state, but have moved back to familuar surroundings. We bought a house and are living in Warrenton.
School
Days have gone by for me. Berkeley is not what it used to be. So much has changed, so many of the people I grew up with and their families no longer live in Berkeley. So many of those I went to High School with, people I used to spend time with at their homes. They're gone!!! The neighborhoods I used to visit friends in are nothing but vacant lots. The City isn't what it used to be.
College
KU was very overwhelming. High School did not prepare me for what was expected from a first year freshman. Every class/Professor thought of you as just a number AND that their's was the ONLY class you had to be concerned with. So having a late paper or assignment due to other class conflicts was not excepted. I began my college days as a pledge for a Fraternity, but later relised that Greek life wasn't for me. I moved to the dorms and had a muc...Expand for more
h better stay. I remember my first room mate as a gentlmen from Iraq, from which I later learned, was the nephue of a gentleman I was working with some years later. Dorm life had it's HIGHS and lows, but the people are ones who I will always remember.
Workplace
I was hired on by Hampton-Tilley through St. Louis Tech. H-T contracted me to General Motors, from there I was sent to Nisan America, located in Tennessee. Then moved on to Dynalogic Engineering, did work in PLC Panel Design, worked out of Detroit for a while. Moved on to Portafab, doing modular office system design and final checks. Then moved on to Portaking, located closer to where I live. Also in the same business of modular office systems and pre-assembled buildings, doing design work and material fabrication drawings. Now time has passed again. Since I hooked-up with classmates.com and due to rising cost in living and GAS. I have returned to my former employer, Portafab, working back in the valley. It's good to be back with old friends.
Life After Work
Since returning to Portafab, 8 years later I had an accident that almost cost me my leg, because of my injury I have retired due to my disability. I now volunteer my time with the Boy Scouts of America. I take pride in knowing that my efforts support youth development in "Citizenship", "Character Development" and "Personal/Moral Fitness".
