Charles's Story
Life
Pets? Kids? Yeah, I have them, but isn't that what everybody talks about? I do have four wonderful children. I have a pretty good life as well. It hasn't always been a picnic, but toward the end of 2001 I started my own business and I've been strolling along ever since. Some years are better than others, but I have a day job that keeps me out of the office and more importantly keeps me from having to purchase medical insurance for the family. I have other business ventures that I am working, but really more hobbies than anything serious. Overall, I suppose that retirement won't be much of an issue (unless our current government manages to succeed in emptying all of my retirement accounts). I'm doing pretty good, am now divorced but as time progresses I begin to realize that her leaving was the best thing that ever could have happened. I still have great kids. I also on occasion have time to rebuild classic cars, an old dream of mine. I'm currently working on a '69 GMC truck and an '85 Pontiac Fiero. Military
Not much to tell about my military days. I had a mentally ill wife who later died and had two young children to care for on a salary that to this day is just enough to keep young military members at poverty level. I had many understanding and supportive figures during this very difficult time in my life and, with the exception of one arrogant, self-absorbed jackass of a first sergeant who couldn't see problems facing airmen if they were tattooed on his rather large forehead and a complete moron of a commander, my life on the military side was pretty nice. I have very fond memories of my first assignment at RAF Bentwaters and will never forget MSgt Lowry, Chief Jeffers, and Lt Col Webb, three senior enlisted/officer personnel that understood the difficulties I faced during that time and did their best to help me as much as they could. I wish I could find those individuals and let them know what a powerful influence they were on my life and how they have helped make me the person I am today.
