Charles's Story
Life
While in school, I was a quiet person and did not date or have a social life. Possibly, some of you wiwll remember me as I delivered your evening and Sunday papers for over a year.
Since graduation:
I attended Purdue for two years. Where I studied Aeronautical Engineering. After that, with funds exhausted I djoined the United States Air Force. I served in the USAF for eight years (57 65). For most of the time I was in SAC wherre I worked as a clerk, accoutant and a computer programer. While in the Air Force, I spent 18 months on the island of Guam where I met number of people from all over the islands of the Pacific Ocean. Some of them were gueralla fighters form WWII. While they did not provide too many details, I developed a new appreciation for the horrows of WWII.
I have been married twice. My 47th anniverary to my second wie was in July 2011. I have four childred, all daughters, 7 grandsons, and 4 greatgrand children. The third of my four daughters (Ruth Ann) passed away on March 16, 2011 because of an unknown cause.
My occupation: was a computer progrmmer. I programmed IBM mainframes from 1964 until 2007. I developed progrma for militaray usage, retail inventory control, business credit systems, DASDI space usage and analysis.
Over the years, I studied how compilers generated code to take advantage. I developed and presented performance enhancing seminars which were presented at GUIDE SESSIONS . I also taught multiple mainfraime programming languages in company classes and in private programming schools.
I returned to school in 1995 and earned an Associates of Science (A...Expand for more
S) degree in Microcomputer Programming from Mt San Antonio College in Walnut CA. I also took a certificate program consisting of a five course program in Information Technology at California State University Fullerton.
I worked as a Technical Consultant on an IBM project and better yet, I work via telecommuting so I diid not have to leave home to go to work.
It is now 2008 and I might be retired but I am looking at the possibility of attending a local community college to bring my PC programming skills up to date so it might be a short retirement, if I am lucky.
It is now 2010. Last month I had a Difibrilator/Pacemaker installed in my chest. Hopefully this will keep me alive for a view years more. I had to drop my classes last spring because I could not handle the stress ofgoing to school and doing the home worlk. Unless you are working in your own business, I don't believe that you can get a job once you have reached 70.
I have 4 great-grand childred. My second grandson by my oldest daughter has three childred, two girls and a boy. The only son of my youngest daughter, Jackie, got married in October 2008, He joined the Navy in December 2008. His studying missle guidenance systems. His wife gave birth to baby girl, Adalena Sue. Hopefully, we will be able to get to know this great-grandchild.
It is now 2011. On January 2, I went into respiratory failure and spent 12 days in the hospital where I contracted a staff infection. I was on intervenous antibiotics for more 24 days. Now I am hopeful of having my knees replaces so that I will be able to walk without pain.
