Charles's Story
I was born and raised in fishtown pa.after i got out of ST.Laurentius i went to Penn Treaty JR. high for a year, than i went to Mastbaum VOC. & Tech high school played football and basketball most the time i was there, I quit in the 12th grade to join the Army so on Oct.13th. of 1966 i was on my way to FT.Benning Ga. for basic it was just a great time lol, so after 8 weeks of basic i was sent to FT.Knox for 8 weeks of tank traing that is the MOS i joined for, i was gonna go for Special Forces but at that time you had to be able to speak a different language. So after my armor traing i got this great invite to go to southeast asia better known as VIETNAM, i served with the 1st. infantry div. better known as the BIG RED ONE , the unit i was assigned to was the 1st. squadron 4th.cavarly charlie troop served from 67 - 68 and proud of it i'd do it again . Cavarly troopers to roit control that not one of us liked i'd rather been back in Vietnam than deal with that.I left the service in August of 1970, and for 5 years i traveld on foot and covered 20 states trying to find myself. I was married but that was short lived i have a beautiful daughter and 3 grandchildren that i love dearly. In 1977 left Phila, for good and came to New Jersey not knowing i'd meet this great lady who i feel head over heels for, she put up with a lot of my bull and drinking she is one of a kind cause if i was her i would of gave me my walking papers, but i can say we are happyly married and i been sober for 25 years, i still have trouble with Vietnam i'm 100% disabled and i'm getting things to claim to the VA for i was 17 when i went over and it totally screwd my mind and body up. So this here is just a little story of my life, i could write a book. Just remember if it was'nt for the veterans past and present you might not have the freedom you enjoy today.
