Charles's Story
Charles received his BSEE from the University of Wisconsin in 1970 as the IEEE Outstanding Student and went on to Stanford to study computer system design and digital signal processing while working for Hewlett-Packard Company (HP). Ted Hoff, one of the inventors of the microprocessor, was his advisor and Charles became very engaged with the early development of microcomputer systems in the early 70's as develop both hardware and software for complete computers as well as embedded systems.
He is most proud of his early work on the development of talking computers for the blind, and was very grateful to b e awarded a NASA grant for these efforts.

o the development of cardiovascular imaging and informatics systems an solutions. In this pursuit he was involved in the system design and marketing strategy for several startups including ATL (now a part of Philips Medical), Angiotec (now a part of Varian), Camtronics (now a part of IBM Merge), and HeartLab (now a part of Agfa).
Charles is now working in academic medicine where he assists with the technology strategy for cardiovascular imaging and informatics. He is also engaged in the implementation of design international standards and reference designs for cardiovascular clinical reporting.
Charles lost his wife of 25 years in a pedestrian-vehicle accident in 2005. Charles has an adult son from this marriage who live near him in Seattle.
