Charles's Story

Life Graduated 1986 from Tri-State University in Indiana with Aerospace Engineering degree. I work at Naval Air Warfare Center-Patuxent River, Md as Branch Head of the Fixed Wing Ship Suitability Branch Before getting the branch head position, I was lead ship suitability flight test engineer for the Navy on F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. We do all aspects of flight test and evaluation associated with getting the airplane on and off the carrier. Graduated Class 105 from US Naval Test Pilot School in 1994. Married to Karli (from Akron, Ohio) since June 1987 1 daughter Katrynna, 1 son Trevor, 1 boat Phantasus, and 1 cat Kiya. Live in Maryland southeast of DC on Chesapeake Bay. Enjoy kart racing (with Trevor), NASCAR, boating, waterskiing, fishing, travel, kids activities, and our cabin on Lake Cumberland, Ky. My main activity is kart racing with my son. igh school in Sep 2006. Where does the time go. ?? Workplace Started off as lowly flight test engineer in the Carrier Suitability Department of Strike Aircraft Test Directorate. The Carrier Suitability Department handles all fixed and rotary wing flight test associated with getting the aircraft and helicopters on and off ships. We also certify the carriers' automatic and instrument landing systems. I have conducted tests with A-4, A-6, A-7, C-2, E-2, F-14, F/A-18, S-3, and T-45 aircraft. My main concentration has been with the F/A-18 Hornet. I have moved up the Gov't promotion chain to senior engineer status. I had the privelege to attend and graduate from the US NAVAL Test Pilot school Flight Test Engineer Course July 1993-June 1994. I was assigned to be the lead carrier suitability engineer for the new F/A-18E/F Supper Hornet in 1993. I held that position till 2002. I then became the Branch Head of the section I was working in 2003. I'm the supervisor for 10 engineers working the fixed wing ship suitability flight test aspects for the Navy.
