Charlie's Story
Life
I am married to a beautiful woman, Christy, and live in Winston-Salem, NC. We are almost the average American family with the exception of the 2.2 kids. You know, house, two cars, cat (Tinker Bell aka Stinky). I work for a living like everybody else. I miss WV. If my rich uncle ever gets out of the poor house where I can quit work and move back I will in a heartbeat.
Well, we're moving closer to the average American family. Dec 19, 2006, we welcomed our beautiful, little girl into the world. Leah Nicole Croy was born at 12:33pm. She weighed 8lbs 8ozs and was 20in long. At her one month check-up she had grown 2 inches and gained 2 1/2 pounds.
Workplace
I was first assigned to Engine 19 with the Winston-Salem Fire Department. I also work part-time at Beeson Crossroads Fire Department. Engine 19 is housed at Beesons Fire Station.
In February 2006, I was transferred to Station Three. It's located on N. Liberty St., just off of US Highway 52. We protect Smith Reynolds Airport, the Norfolk Southern rail yard, and the Coliseum. ne 3 and Battalion 3 both run out of Station 3. Engine 3 is one of the busiest engine companies in Winston-Salem. Battalion 3 is one of the busiest Battalion Chiefs in the country.
In February 2007, exactly one year to the day from my last transfer, I was transferred to Station One on Truck One. Station One is in downtown W-S on Marshall Street between Sixth and Seventh. Truck One covers all or part of the territories of Engine One, Rescue One, Engine Three, Engine Four, Engine Six, Engine Eight, Engine Nine, Engine Twelve, and Engine Seventeen. Engine One, Truck One and Battalion One all respond out of Station One. Like Station Three, Station One is one of the busiest stations in Winston-Salem.
I have started teaching public education classes for the fire department. I go out to businesses/companies and teach fire extinguisher classes. I also go to schools and teach fire safety to kids using a robotronic "Sparky the Fire Dog" robot. I sometimes do public appearances at museums, community events, etc as "Sparky" in an anamatronic Sparky suit. It's a lot of fun, especially working with the kids. I knew that PR/Theatre degree would come in handy sooner or later! (LOL)
