Charlotte's Story
Life
I moved out to CA in Oct. 1993. I have come a long way since then. I moved here with hardly enough money to make it day to day & now I have a pretty good job & I live in San Jose. I still make it back to SC at least once every year or every other year. During the 90's I went to school in SF & worked as a server, cocktail waitress, bartender, etc until I got a degree. I lived in SF for 5 years & that was lots of fun where I lived with lots of artists & free spirits. I went to hundreds of concerts around the Bay Area & met my husband at one too. When I moved out of SF, I moved in with my soon to be husband in Mt. View, CA where we would ride our bikes to Shoreline Amphitheater & score tickets to lots of shows. We always made sure that tickets never went to waste. We saw Barry White, the Who, Pete Townsend, Neil Young, Roger Waters, ZZ Top, Kiss, & so much more. What can I say? We had lots of fun together & we still do. My husband & I have been together for 10 years & have been married for 5 years. We don't have any children, but we do have lots of nieces & nephews and friends who have children. When the kids act up, they go home; it's pretty cool. I am training my Sheltie puppy to be a therapy dog & I hope we can visit sick children & adults in hospitals; so if you want to count that as having children, then yes, those are all my children. We have been working with a little girl who at 1 year old was diagnosed with a tumor in her spine. She went through 6 rounds of chemo and a major surgery. I brought my puppy to visit with her and it made such a difference in her spirit. She went from crying, kicking, & screaming to laughing and being calm. It really makes me happy to see a child smile like that, especially when they've been through so much. I hate to see children or even adults suffer like that. Pets really do make a difference. I was diagnosed 6 years ago with a terminal advanced cancer & I am still fighting it. It's not getting me down or stopping me from having fun & enjoying li...Expand for more
fe. Right now, I just live for right now & I enjoy every moment that I can. I also counsel other cancer patients & try to give them some hope & to not give up. Keep fighting! My husband & I still (we're best friends) go snowboarding in the winter, biking, swimming, in-line skating in the summer. I try to stay as active as I can. I feel more alive that way & I always try to imagine the cancer going away when I am. None of us know when our time is up & it's very important to appreciate what you do have & what you can do. Too many of us, get in a hurry & worry too much about tomorrow, about what they don't have and not enough about what they do have. They worry too much about the future even next year & don't even get a chance to enjoy the precious moments of right now. Lately I have been an advocate for medicinal cannabis. I feel patients should have access to this very natural drug. The gov't has fed us so much propaganda & even lied (for giant pharmaceutical companies) to us. I wouldn't be alive today if it weren't for this miracle drug (it's been around since 7000BC & used for medicine since then). I have had 4 major abdominal surgeries & it's the only drug that helps me during my treatments & for instant pain relief. It helps me consume lots water (very important), gives me an appetite, relaxes me, & so much more. I can't say enough about it. I really hope it becomes legal in SC one day so that I can come out & visit safely & not have to worry about being arrested for relieving pain. I'm always in danger of bowel blockages & more surgeries & it's safer if I have it on hand. My other option is morphine but that would require me to be in the hospital hooked up to an IV & besides I'm terrified of that drug. I am thankful for this miracle drug (cannabis) that god gave us; it really helps me have a quality of life (out of the hospital). I don't have to suffer from pain too often. Currently I am awaiting another experimental drug but still enjoying each and every day that I am blessed with.
