Chas's Story
Life
My life after high school in a nutshellÂ
.
Well, that summer after graduation seemed to be one party after another culminating with a big blow out while my family left the house to me for 2 weeks. I bet some of you guys remember that!
Four and a half years at Penn State got me my BachelorÂs Degree in Science along with a minor in Human Development and Family Studies.
Grad school was calling and I had all of my things packed and ready to move down to Alabama for a PhD program in sport coaching at the United States Sports AcademyÂ
but at the last possible moment (2 weeks before classes started) I got my acceptance into Pitt Dental.
Four and a half years at Pitt got me my D.M.D. It also got me my black belt and advanced instructor's certification in Northern Shaolin Kung Fu. Made my spending money working nights as a martial arts instructor.
I didnÂt move back to Âthe Valley right away. I moved out to New Mexico and Arizona for a spell. I volunteered to work on and off the Navajo Indian reservation with my new dental degree. Winslow, Arizona was where I called home for a while in one of the cheapest motels I have ever seen ($11.00 a nightÂ
but when itÂs ...Expand for more
all volunteer work thatÂs still a chunk of change!).
With my credit cards maxed and bank account dried it was time to come home and make some money.
I worked at the movie theaters outside Âthe Mall nights and as an associate in a dental office during the day. Lots of fun. I donÂt think you ever truly realize how many bad movies there are until you work in a movie theater.
Finally in 1998 my partner (who also happens to be my father) and I decided to open up our own Dental practice. Carpenter Dental, right on Wyoming Ave. in Forty Fort. WeÂve been practicing there ever since. We do general dentistry but my concentration is in Cosmetics.
In 2004 I got married to my wife, Natasha. SheÂs from Russia and we met online. Who knew those Russian language classes I took at PSU would come in handy!!! The ceremony was in Las Vegas and the minister was an ordained Elvis impersonator (really!).
Natasha works as a hair dresser at Allure beauty salon in Kingston.
September 13, 2006 brought the birth of our baby boy, Roman Archer Carpenter.
Currently I am also the W-B/Scranton Penguins team dentist.
More to come and I hope to see everyone at the 20th reunion!!!
