Cheryl's Story

College My life since college has been full of ups and downs, much like my grades in college. I married not long after college at the tender age of 22. My husband, although a nice guy, was not husband material and we went through a nasty divorce after 6 years of marriage. I don't regret it for a minute because if I hadn't married him I would not have my beautiful daughter Marissa, 13, and my handsome son Ryan, almost 10. After the divorce I met a great man, Steve. I say he is great because after only a few months of dating I had the unfortunate task of telling him that we were going to have a baby, his first child. He was a bit scared to say the least, but was extremely happy after the initial shock wore off. On February 29, 2000, three weeks before our daughter, Brooke Marie, was due to be born, Steve and I went through the worst time of our lives. The doctor decided to do an emergency c-section because the baby was in distress. Brooke Marie only lived a few short minutes. Steve and I had lost our precious baby along with a large piece of our selves and eachother. We pulled together and helped eachother through it. It was decided then that we would wait a few years before even talking about having any more children. My other two children were confused by the whole thing and had many questions which we gladly answered, showing them the only picture that we had of their baby sister that was taken by the priest at the hospi...Expand for more
tal. It is the only way I know what she looked like because I never got to see her. I returned to work 8 weeks later. Everyone treated me differently. I never want to hear anyone tell me "I am so sorry for your loss" again. It only made me upset everytime someone brought it up. The only thing worse was a few months later when people would ask us when we were going to try to have another baby. I put all of the baby things into storage and had my whole house redone so that none of the rooms would remind me of being pregnant. Then the most amazing thing in our lives happened. Even though we had taken every precaution, I suspected I was pregnant. I went to the doctor's office and they confirmed it. She told me I was far enough along to find out the sex of the baby. I did want to know. She said that it was a baby girl and that she was due to be born on February 29, 2001. Exactly one year to the day after loosing Brooke. Since there is not February 29th in 2001 her due date was March 1st. She was delivered on Valentines day and we called her Hope Marie and she is now a healthy, happy 7 year old. She looks just like her daddy and also looks like her sister, Brooke's, picture. I believe that somehow God made up for a mistake that he made and gave us our baby girl back. Hope, Marissa and Ryan are my life now. We are happy and complete. They are why I am here on this earth and I wish for nothing but happiness for all of us.
