Cheryl's Story

Jack Butler and I got married in July of 1966. Then he went into the Army. He did two tours in VietNam and I had two sons, Jack Jr. in 1967 and Aaron in 1970. We moved around a lot but kept coming home to the Orlando area. I did work occasionally, and had another son, Nathan, in 1976. Finally I went back to school in 1979. I got an AA at Valencia CC and then a BS in accounting. My kids said that getting a degree in BS was a cool thing. So I worked as an accountant for several years, but my favorite job was teaching accounting at Orlando College. I loved it!! So I decided to go back to school and get my PhD to teach. I went to Rollins for my MBA and put in applications for doctoral programs. I graduated Rollins in 1996 and started interviewing. No luck. Apparently, 48 is too o...Expand for more
ld to start an accounting doctorate. So I got my CPA in Tallahassee where we had moved for Jack's job and worked for the state. I lost my job in April 2008 and have been unemployed ever since. So I am now retired. Along the way, I found out that I have ADHD and PTSD. Jack has cancer. Our oldest son has two sons, Zach is 19 and Jared is 9. Aaron has two daughters Ashley is almost 16 and Elizabeth is 14. Two of our sons, Jack Jr. and Nathan live with us in Apopka, as do Jack Jr.'s two boys. I have been all around the US but the Keys is my favorite place here. I love going to Scotland. I have cousins there and it is so beautiful. Now Jack is the president of two genealogical societies and I grow roses. I also follow NASCAR. September 22, 2010, I became a great-grandmother.
