Cheryl's Story
Life
After graduating from Marshall in 1999 with a degree in Communication Disorders (basically speech-language therapy), I went to graduate school at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Gallaudet is a university for deaf and hard-of-hearing persons or for people who plan to work with the deaf population. I earned my Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2001, and decided to stay in the D.C. area because I had obtained a job with the Fairfax County School System (Virginia suburbs of D.C.).
In November of 2001, I met my future husband on a Christian singles website. Yes, a website. When I met him, Kenny was a student at the University of Maryland majoring in marketing. However, after we had been dating for a year or so, he felt called into the ministry. So, we got married in April 2004 and moved to the Greenville, South Carolina area in July 2004 so that Kenny could pursue a degree in Christian Mini...Expand for more
stries at Southern Wesleyan University. He plans to be a Wesleyan minister, and therefore I'll be a minister's wife! Some people will find THAT hard to believe!
Anyway, while Kenny has headed back to school, I've been working as a pediatric speech-language therapist here in Greenville. First, I worked for a private practice, and then in March 2005, I began working for the Greenville Hospital in their outpatient pediatric clinic. I enjoy what I do for the most part, but work is not my life.
In my free time, I am very involved in our church ministries, including the youth group and a sign language ministry. I've gotten into scrapbooking and genealogy research as well. We have an adorable, rambunctious little Jack Russell Terrier named Madeline (Maddie for short) that we love to spoil.
Kenny and I plan to be in the Greenville, SC area until December of 2006, and then we'll go wherever God leads us to minister.
