Cheryl's Story
Life
After graduation, I joined the Army. Was "medically Retired" in 1977. In 1985 I moved to the Bradenton/ Sarasota area of Florida. Lived there for 13 years, then moved to the Biloxi area of Missapissy. Talk about a "Backwards" state. It is in the top 10% of being Economically depressed. The only 2 places to work at is either a Casino or at Wal-Mart. In 1999 I met someone and moved to Oklahoma. The land of "Cowboi's and Indian Maidens". We live about 30 miles north of Oklahoma City and own 2 homes that sit on the north end of a private lake. I am VERY involved with both the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. I have no children. Never wanted children. When I was a Junior in high school, my so called "Father" punched me in the face and broke my nose and gave me a black eye. I got my temper under controll when I was in the Army. I did something that my dear loving mother once told me. "Make your temper work for you, not against you." So every day I worked out in the gym across the street from my barracks, right up until March 13, 1976. That was the day that I fell off the back of a "Duece and a half" ( 2 & 1/2 ton truck). This injury is what caused the end of my military career. So now I am back to helping Veterans and their dependants with their V.A. benefits.
When I was in Florida, I was one of the top 5 Service Officers in the State for the DAV. I averaged and Win ratio of 90% of all claims filed on behalf of Veterans. Oklahoma is glad that they have me now. I could go on, but I don't want this to turn into a book.
Military
If I only knew then what I know now... things definately would have turned out different and I would have retired from the military, but I now get full benefits, so I can't complain.
