Cheryl's Story

Life Hmmm...nothing outstanding to report. Just 'scrappily' married to the better part of who I wish I were...for about 38 years. I'm following in my mother's footsteps with a home filled with dust bunnies, webs created in obscure upper reaches by those nefarious "cobs", and a multitude of animals (dogs, cats, snakes, hermit crabs, breeding gouramis (sp?), an iguana or two. Of course, now that my two daughters are grown and out of the abode, we currently have only two cats as I refuse to have to walk a dog after working all day in front of a computer screen and then hauling my butt to the gym in futile attempts to maintain cardiac health and battle the possibility of type II diabetes. Medical technology is the route that I followed and have worked in a hospital designated as a regional dialysis and cardiac center (full time) at the same time working p/t in a Lev II trauma center in a city that made headlines for the most murders in a year. Thank God I didn't have to work blood bank there! Chemistry and crunching numbers was the game. During my stint in the lab, I was enlisted to work on an upgrade to the LIS system. So on 9-11-2001 I began my new career staring vapidly at a monitor through my progressive lenses...and remembering feeling helpless and a bit 'lost' when in class in FLA as the Twin Towers crumbled. Now I have two indelible memories burned in my brain...Nov.22, 1963 (Advance Biology class) and 9-11-2001, Clearwater, FL Soft Computer Consultants Softlab setup class. Destined to forever be a student and not a master of my universe. OK...so the grammer is shaky and the spelling is too; but at this age, I think we all deserve to be given a little slack! No grandchildren...my youngest is getting married this year. No babies in the plan...I must have been a horrible mot...Expand for more
her! My plan is to rock the crack babies when I retire. Daugher #1 works with endangered species and Daughter #2 works in kitchen design with an intent to have her own woodshop. Hubby works part time and tries to keep the cobwebs in order. It's just his stuff that we have a problem with...you know, the kind of stuff that you need 40 days and a dumpster to manage. I still attempt to read a bit in Spanish. Had a few pen pals and continue sporadically to communicate with one in Argentina...pipe dream...someday to travel and have the opportunity to learn more of la lengua and at the same time learning to cook some of the local cuisine. You really don't want to know anymore. Mostly it's work and exercise and cleaning and chores. I had my playtime when I stayed home with the girls as they were growing up. So now it's Paytime! All of my good friends who were into teaching are now retired. I'm sooooo jealous! Well, not really jealous, just dreaming of the day when I can have that second cup of coffee and take the time to read another chapter of a book or even the newspaper in the AM without having to rush out the door. But that's what keeps me on track...and really, at this point, even though I dream, I can't imagine not having that paycheck coming in. So that's about it. Sounds more like a letter than a bio or update. Take it or leave it...I'm still a base runner at heart. Oh, don't forget the high jump; spud, girls softball, volleyball, REd Rover, and my first love, roller dance. I still have my violin from 4th grade. In my next life..... hmmm...how about set design; second chair in an orchestra; a member of Chorus LIne; food critic for the NY Times; travelling with Rick Steves; learning photography with Ansel Adams...oooppss...former and future lives. I stand corrected! Ciao
