Cheryl's Story

Life Hi, I am living in Fairfield CA now. I moved here in August of 2001. I miss living in Benicia, even though I spend a lot of my time there. I am married to Darrell since 9-11-98. I have a beautiful daughter Stefanie age 28 from my first marriage. I'm glad I got to see so many of you at the 30 year reunion. I can't wait until the 35th. I'm working at Travis AFB, still and hope to retire at age 55. Only 4-5 years to go. Workplace I'm working because I have to, I like my job so-so.. but I'd rather be retired...if all goes well, I will be retired on Oct 1, 2012, right now that is a pipe dream. Now that we have another reunion coming up I find myself thinking about old friends. Some who can't make it. From my class I hope Raelene and Ruth are coming, I already know Tommy is not. My sisters Elaine and Dorothy are both coming. I want my nieces Deb, Mel and Kathy to come! So... in my spare time I love to scrap. I've gone back 29 years and I'm putting together albums for my daughter. I like to hang out with friends, work in my yard and spend as much time as I can in the sun. Man... I'm looking at these questions for building a story and they ask the wierdest think you did in school. Who's gonna answer that? But, one of my funnest memories (and it shouldn't be) is in my sophmore year in Mrs. Fikes class when several of my classmates set the trash can on fire. I was hooting and hollering and laughing my a$$ off when all the sudden I noticed Hiram and Keven were very sad and disapointed. My guild lasted a whole 30 seconds and then in came Mrs Fike, and I won't tell who, but someone looked at her soooo sweetly and said, oh we were so busy reading we didn't even notice. Oh my. Worst memory, Barbara Terry, the tough new girl felt the need to punch me in the eye an broke my nose. I had to go to the football game, play panterette and be in the band with a big black eye. Awe.. one question said what happened to your first crush? How sad, the first person I really remember having a crush on was Eugene Lagrimas. I was in 8th grade. He's in heaven now. Although he never gave me a second look, I think I crushed on him for years. I saw him not long before he passed and he seemed so glad to see me. His dad was with him and he had a big smile on his face when he heard us talking. Gene gave me a hug that day, heck I watied so many years for that hug. My first school friend was Bruce Austin. He's in heaven now too. My first day of kindergarden he saw me clinging to my mom and said "little girl, don't be scared. There are a bunch of toys here" I never forgot that. My...Expand for more
best friend in grade school was always Lynn Ingerson. I saw her at Joyce Kimbels 50th b-day party last year and it was great catching up. Somewhere along the way I started out hangin out with Jerri Hart. I think she was my niece Debbie's friend first, but Debbie and I shared everything, even friends. Oh, did I mention that one of my best friends was my niece Debbie Frashik, 10 months younger than me. In Jr. High I started hanging out with Raelene and Ruth. First time I met Raelene she told me she hated me when we first met. I told her we had never met before and she said we had when Mill's 6th graders came to Mary Farmar to play kick ball against us. She said I was the captain of the team (I don't remember that) and she was mad because we won. She learned to like me after that. My best times in high school were anywhere I could play my flute. Band camp...whoohooo...does that make me a geek coz I loved band camp!!! ONE TIME AT BAND CAMP!!!! I was a member of IORG (Rainbow Girls). I loved it, and have worked with the group until a few years ago. Since school, I married a jerk who treated me like I was an idiot with no brain to make any decisions on my own. 7 years and never a true family vacation, I guess I should have gotten a clue sooner. But, I got a beautiful daughter Stefanie out of it so all is well that ends well. I never actually finished JC, but did go to medical assisting program just before I got divorced. Went to work at Mare Island for a few years and transferred in the early stages of the base closure to Travis in early 91. I'm still there. Hope to make my dissapearing act sometime between 2012 and 2014, but with the economy that is just a pipe dream right now. Hopefully I can retire from full time and work somewhere part time until I'm 62. I met my husband Darrell at work, he brought his mom in for an appointment and we talked, found out my birthday was the same as his dads. He came by a few times, and one day I just up and called him since apparantly he was to shy to call me. That was in 94, we were married on 9-11-98 so we're coming up on 10 years. I love my life with Darrell, he's my best friend and partner. We stay busy and I wish we had more time to go on trips, but that will be coming down the road. Right now the big thing is planning Stefanie's wedding. That will be happening in May 09. We've secured the location, shopped for dresses, haven't found one yet. Most of the venders are booked. It's going to be so beautiful at in the hills of Santa Rosa, outside, high on a hill overlooking the valley. That's all for now folks.
