Cheryl's Story
Life
Well guys, I am in Dutch Harbor, Alaska now. I have been living here since 1999 and sometimes love it and sometimes hate it! I had married Greg Vaughn during school (7/1975) and we had 2 daughters who are now grown and have given me 7 grandchildren. He went in to the army and we spent 3 years in Panama, Central America and then went to Fort Knox, Kentucky for a bit. We ended up getting divorced there in 1981 and I moved to Oklahoma for a while where my father was living. That was a LONG summer, not quite my cup of tea, a bit slow if you know what I mean.
My sister had got with a guy who had moved to Seattle and wanted to be a fireman and invited me to try starting over there and I spent many great years living there. I met my second husband not long after moving there in Nov. 1982 and we married in 9/1985 and are still married now. He is now a fireman here in Dutch after working on the crab boats and then for a company that sells supplies to the fishing boats. Became a volunteer and now has been a paid fireman for 7+ years and I have become an Independent Consultant for a new company to the US called NYR Organic which will have no stores, only us consultants !! I have been having terrible back problems for 15
years now and am disabled as far as doing any of the other kinds of jobs I have done before.
I stayed in Seattle for a while when he came back to be a fireman to get my back fixed and out of pain, but they say I have "failed back syndrome" and the surgeons said that I am "too broke to be fixed" so now they have put in a pain pump permanently in my body so that maybe I can actually at least get around with my cane when I want to!!!!!
Please email me anybody, love to hear from some of you guys from school, I am on aol with the screenname of Bobbi99932. Couldn't make it to the 30th because of being here in Seattle at my daughter's trying to get help because there isn't a hospital out on Dutch Harbor, just a clinic, everyone else has to be medavaced for major traumas or health problems.
This is probably getting tedious to some, so I wil...Expand for more
l sign off and you can email me anytime if you remember me and would like to talk. Mo McDonnell died a few years ago and she was my connection to most of the class. We had a great time at the 20th reunion and would love to hear how the 25th went off.
I am at Bobbi99932 with aol for quick contacting!!
Now I have been in Dutch Harbor for 10 yrs and my husband Gary is the Captain of the small Fire Dept. here, the bulk of the dept. is volunteer (which is how he started) and we have are still together and living where the "Deadliest Catch" starts from on their adventures each season. It is the largest fishing capital in the US and when seasons are on we have as many as 10,000 people in and out of here, off season we have about 4,000 that live here permanently between the two islands. We are out in the middle of the chain of Aleutian Islands when you look at a map of Alaska and it is like any other place, there are good things about it and there are bad; right now it is beautiful, green and there are flowers of ALL kinds blooming away that I love to go out and scout and pick for home. And just to see if I can find a new kind I have never seen yet, some summers I do, yesterday it was about 75 for a while, today was mostly stormy, windy and rainy but now it's calmed down and gray!
If you are interested in direct selling of organic bath and beauty products, use my before mentioned email on aol) I would love to share my excitement about this with someone I went to school with, that would be fun! Otherwise my back keeps me from doing some of the things that are really cool out here, I can't really hike the way some people do out here, the kayaking is awesome, I fish from shore sometimes on a good day (love fresh fish) and I make candles and do bead work. I love movies, so does my husband, so we watch lots of action, horror, sci-fi, etc. I watch the chick flicks sometimes when he is at work! I do wonder how some of you remember me, I left in Junior year to get pregnant and married that summer so I always wonder how many knew what happened to me or cared!
