Chris's Story

Life Where to begin? Is there life after Saunders? heck yeah - especially if you were a scrawny little nerd that no one remembers. :) After Saunders, I decided to move to Scotland to go to university - ended up at Aberbeen University. Like a good geek, I studied engineering. However, I also discovered the sports of rugby and rowing (crew). This was how I became de-geeked (I know it's not a real word, but bear with me). From there, went to Cambridge where i did a PhD in crytography. That was pretty fun. Still played rugby and rowed a lot. Couldn't let the nerd side win totally after all. After that, moved to the U.S. for the beginning of the "dot com boom." Lived like a rockstar for a few years. When the bubble burst, well, so did my investments. But that's okay, I'm still doing pretty good. I work as an independent contractor in the field of cyber security. Basically i'm a pseudo-hacker but i do it for various US Gov't agencies. It's actually pretty fun and i don't have to worry about being arrested. For those geeks who might actually be reading this - i even won CTF at DefCon X. (that's kinda like the hacker superbowl for you normal people) These days I spend most of my free time doing volunteer firefighter stuff. I'm still training to become a "HTR" (Heavy Tactical Rescue) Specialist. We're the guys that repell of buildings, do confined space and swift water rescue stuff. It's really fun. The other day I had the honour of doing helicopter hoist rescue training with the US Park Police Rescue Team. It was real fun (well except for that one landing (from a rope). No injuries though! I can't wait for more. ...Expand for more
Anyway, I got to live all over the states and am now located in the Metro DC area. It's pretty fun (except for traffic). I spend most of my time riding my motorcycle, hanging out with friends and generally trying to enjoy life. Amazing how life ends up. Things are very good for me and i'm pretty happy with everything. Well almost everything, i can't seem to grow much hair anymore. :( Thanks for reading my blurb and I'd love to hear from you. School Some of my more interesting memories from High School.. Art class: Mr C commenting on a women who was fined $200 for jogging topless: "Wow - that's $100 each" The school play cast parties at Mr. Green's house. Mr Woods from History class telling me "shut up chris or i'll break your knuckles." Didn't really have any crushes at Saunders. Well one, a girl named Nicole. now if only i could remember her last name. :P College College was fun. Went from geek to jock almost over night. Somehow in the summer between HS and university i gained 50lbs (the good kind). got drafted for the rugby team, ended up on the rowing team and generally had a great time. It was fun being "chris from canada" and running around scotland like a madman. Same thing really for gradschool in england. Rowed, played rugby and somehow completed a phd. *boggle* Workplace I moved to the states after gradschool and have established a surprisingly successful career as a computer security guru. Worked with all sorts of neat organizations - FBI, the Pentagon and such. Currently contracting with the US Treasury. It's fun. Life is good. I feel better now. I feel better than James Brown.
