Chris's Story
Life
It's been a long time since I first dropped out of high school, but, despite a couple of heart attacks, diabetes, and depression, life still goes on ... .
After North Agincourt P.S. and a year attending Ostervangsskolen in Randers (Denmark), I started at Agincourt C.I., but switched to Project SEED, which I left in 1971/2. I tried acting while I lived at Rochdale College on and off for a few years, but that didn't work out particularly well so, while I continued to sing and play guitar (solo and with various groups), I went on to work in a succession of jobs, each for varying lengths of time.
I met my wife Cathy (née Brooks) in '72 through the folk group with which I was playing at the time, ...Expand for more
and we married in '75. In '77 I was accepted to U of T, where I spent the next 10 years earning my Honours BA (summa cum laude) in History and Anthropology and my MA in anthropology (archaeology). I began the PhD programme in 1984, but by 1989, bogged down in my dissertation and with a family at home, I needed a job and quit while still ABD. I just happened to be in the right place at the right time, however, and I've been with the Ministry of Culture ever since as the regional archaeologist (now "heritage planner") for central and eastern Ontario.
Cathy and I have three wonderful kids (Poul, Kai, and Kari) and we've lived in Ajax, ON, since 1985.
I'd love to hear from anyone from my school days ... .
