Chris's Story
Life Beyond High School:
Following graduation from Martingrove Collegiate, I attended the University of Alberta in Edmonton. My first exposure to the UofA was in 1971 when I travelled to Alberta as part of a Young Voyageurs student exchange along with Marcelle Kors from MCI. Following a B.Sc. in Chemistry, I obtained a Master of Health Services Administration (MHSA) degree from the UofA. I have lived in Edmonton ever since.
I began my career at Misericordia Hospital in Edmonton, followed by the Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service. In 1987, I moved to Alberta Health for over ten years, working as a hospital administration consultant specializing in tertiary care hospitals in Calgary and Edmonton. Later I was a project manager in ambulatory care and then mental health services.
After a couple of years renovating my basement and working as a church administrator, I began a six year stint at the University of Alberta, first looking after the university's endowments, then in research administration. I retired in May 2007.
While a student, I joined the University of Alberta Mixed Chorus and sang with them for 13 years. I have sung with Greenwood Singers since 1988. We perform regularly with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra, other ensembles, as well as our own concerts.

have been driving streetcars with the Edmonton Radial Railway Society since 2008, including an old TTC red rocket and am the President of the Society! When I'm not driving streetcars, I drive around in my antique cars: a 1927 Ford Model T Touring and a 1928 Ford Model A Tudor (pronounced 2-door).
If that isn't enough, I was a hospital board chair, chair the Edmonton Community Board of Covenant Health, the operator of all Alberta Catholic hospitals, and served for eleven years on Covenant board committees. Since 2020, I've been a member of the University of Alberta Alumni Council. I am currently on the Board of Governors, Senate and Alumni Council of the University of Alberta.
I met my wife Jean at the UofA in 1980 and we married in 1981. She is originally from Red Deer, Alberta. We have two children, Donald and Louise. Donald lives in Edmonton and Louise lives with her husband in Berkshire, England. Jean was the diagnostic services laboratory manager at Canadian Blood Services in Edmonton until her retirement. We have travelled extensively throughout North America, United Kingdom, Europe, Caribbean, China and parts of Central and South America.
In 2018, I was ordained as a Permanent Deacon for the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton and serve at St. Joseph's Basilica.
