Chris's Story
Life
After I left NH, I signed to play baseball at EMCC. After leaving EMCC in 1994, I signed with the University of Florida and I was lucky enough to play in the 1996 College World Series with that team. I was drafted in the supplemental draft in 1996 by the Brewers, but I decided that I had enough. I had one more stop as a player with the Tupelo Tornado in 1997.
I finally finished school in 1998 at MSU after swapping out of Environmental Engineering with 12 hrs left. (genius move by me) I coached at EMCC for a year and went back to NH as an assistant in 1999. During my time there, I went back to school to become a Computer and Network technician and also a Microsoft Certified Professional. I am now also a licensed insurance agent.
I am currently the Head Baseball Coach at Hernando High School. AND may I say that this is one of the top schools in the state... I will also say that I couldn't HAND PICK three better people to work for than the principals I currently have.
I married the former Ashley Shepherd from New Hope. I have a son, Cade, that is 3 and we currently have a little girl on the way. She is due Sept 28, 2007 and we are going to name her Bailey Claire. (A girl... Just what I need.) :) Everyone says it will settle me down a bit. But I will tell ya... Cade is my buddy! There is absolutely NO life experience that will change you like a child will. I never thought I wanted kids, but he is the mo...Expand for more
st amazing thing in my life.
Other than that, I am an avid golfer with about a 6 handicap. We actually live on a golf course here now.
I also like to read these days. (I know that one is hard to believe.) I read anything from sports journals to eastern philosophy to poetry. I even write a little, but don't tell anybody... It would break the "dumb jock" mold that coaches typically have.
Other than that, my time here is spent with these kids. People always ask WHY I went into this field and my answer is a simple one. I can tell you the name of every coach I had from a very early age. I can only name a few teachers that stand out. It isn't just about teaching a curriculum. It is about helping shape the lives of young people through sports and discipline. Oh yeah... I teach math and study hall.
Personally... I am the virtually the same person you knew in High School. However, I have gotten a little older, a little wiser, a little more forceful with my thoughts and opinions and I have also put on a "little" weight. :) That 120 lb rail has turned into a 190 lb coach. I am gonna blame that on the bad knees, but I am quite sure that barley pops are partially to blame.
