Chris's Story
Can I say that I loved every minute of my time in Freeport and still have fond memories of growing up in was what the most idyllic environment for a youngster to grow up in. Some fo you will remember that the Davis family left Freeport in 1972 and moved lock stock and barrel to Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Thats where we split up as a family. After about a year mum, dad and my two younger sisters, Jayne and Samantha moved on to South Africa. John had stayed in the States and Neville had already left for England. At the ripe old age of 18 years I was on my own.
With £50 in my pocket, an airline ticket to Heathrow (England) and an address of some friends of my mum and dad in Bournemouth (Southern England) who they said would look after me for a couple of weeks while I found my feet. What could have been better to prepare you for the real world.
Training as a Silver Service Waiter led me into a life in Hotel management where I met and married the woman who is still the love of my life. A few more jobs over the next couple of years and the birth of our first daughter, Jessica and it was time to find a car...Expand for more
eer as opposed to a job.
In 1977 I applied for and was accepted as a Police Constable with the Dorset Police. Working in uniform and CID at Bournemouth. During this time Nola was born. Promoted to Sergeant in 1988 we moved to Dorchester and I worked in uniform and in custody at Weymouth. Eventually I found my forte, Scenes of Crime and during the next 15 years I supervised any number of major crime scenes. Why is it that my crime only ever happens between 2 and 3 in the morning?
32 years later I retired as a Police Officer but still work for the Dorset Police within the Imaging Unit (dealing with CCTV and CSI photos) and as cover for CSI.
I still have the same interests as I did when I was a young lad in Freeport. Golf and Football (both English and American) in fact I have managed to watch a number of teams from the NFL at wembly over the last few years. A couple of things I do now that I never considered as a youngster including walking and gardening. Have just dug up the last of the potatoes and picked the last of the broad beans.
All the best to all who remember and I wish you all well.
Cheers
Chris
