Chris's Story
Thanks for stopping in. Odd, to be able to access and hear from people I knew (well or only tangentially) twenty or thirty years ago.
Professionally, I'm an Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Newman University in Wichita, KS. I earned my Ph.D. in Philosophy (specialties in Continental Philosophy, Politics, and Religion) from the University of Memphis, in Memphis, TN (2003). Personally, I'm a newly-married man and as happy and as fortunate as a guy can be.
A quick chronology is in order for those folks I haven't seen in 25 or more years. I graduated high school in Edmonds, WA, in 1986. With my metal band, Bitter End, I played a bit part in the Seattle music explosion of the late 80's-early 90's. In 1994 I left Seattle for grad study in Philosophy at the University of Memphis (GO TAH-GURS!). I lived there from 1994-2000, and from 2000-2003 I lived in Seattle and taught at Seattle University as an adjunct professor/pissant.
While in Seattle during the early 2000's I continued my sometime musical career by making a record, and touring, with Geoff Tate of Queensryche. Fame-wise, it ...Expand for more
was a great 15 minutes, and pretty much the equivalent of getting called up from the Minors to the Majors for one season.
I came to Kansas in 2003 for a job at Emporia State University, and ended up here in Wichita, where things have gone rather well. I have published a number of peer-reviewed articles, was selected for the 2007-2008 Newman University Teaching Excellence Award, and am the new chair as my department inaugurates a new major in Philosophy.
Right after graduating high school I fathered a child. His name is Josh and he's now 21, and living in Alberquerque. Great kid. To his great relief, he's taller than his Dad.
The lady in the picture is now my wife, SK / aka "Porcupine," who is as talented and formidable as she is beautiful. We were married in November of 2008, and share a fabulous, Brady Bunch appointed apartment with a couple of dogs.
Life basically consists of teaching, grading, writing, Leftist / populist politics, playing music in and around town, thrift stores, travelling, and my Sweetie--not in that order.
Glad you stopped in, and hope life finds you well.
