A Life Recalled: After graduating from Camden High in 1963, I attended San Jose State for a semester but then decided to broaden my horizons by signing up for a European Tour, compliments of the US Army. By the time my nearly 3 years as a medic in Germany were up, I had, fortunately, avoided the draft and a potential trip to Vietnam. I brought back Kathleen, my Irish wife, a woman of great character and intelligence, and spent the next 4 years as an undergrad psych major at UC, Santa Cruz, graduating in 1971. We have a son, Ian, now a programer with Genentech and a musician, but the marriage itself didn't survive the college years, victim of cultural differences primarily. Life went on and after a stint in Berkeley working with schizophrenic kids, I returned to Santa Cruz and took up again with The Nickelodeon Theatres, an independent movie business where I had worked part time while going to UC. My entire career of 40 years with the Nick eventually included the Del Mar Theatre, a restored movie palace from the 30's and the Aptos Cinema, also nearby. I was operations manager for a total of 9 screens worth of independent/art film fare, all located within Santa Cruz County, a decidedly rare bounty for an area this size. I also did video production for over 20 years, primarily shooting and editing many Monterey Bay weddings, under the banner of my business, Pro-Video . I own a home in Capitola and live with my domestic partner, Mady, a beautiful woman who is a computer science graduate and programmer working in the health industry.
