Chris's Story

School Elementary school at Wampatuck in Scituate, MA followed by some Junior High at Scituate JHS before Dad moved us to Northern CA with his job as ticket manager of the Oakland A's in '68. Two years later it was off to Southern CA so he could work for the Lakers/Kings at the Forum. My biggest memory at PVHS was getting the soccer team started and playing as a senior. I still remember how scared I was as a Junior speaking to the School Board. Thes rest was easy. I made some great friends that I still talk with and do things with; Ed Messinger (although he graduated in Oregon), Jim Greaney and up until last year, Jim Torrance. Over the years I have stayed in touch with Derrick Bang and occasionally Bill Willis. Great guys all! Bill and I were roommates at UCLA for the first part of our Freshman year there. I remember Mr. Moseng, Mrs. Walchli, Miss Barnett, Mrs. Russi, Mr. Eberhard with mixed memories. And I'm sure with the right stimulus, I would remember more of my classmates. After entering the architectural world after being a Design Major at UCLA, I have worked in the field since 1978 and have been on owner of a firm since 1997. Since the end of 2000, I have run my own firm (no partners) called Ryan Design Group where my oledst son Sean works as a CAD drafter with me. These days I am a proud grandfather of Gavin Ryan (born 2005) and have my youngest son Patrick working in the Los Angeles area while trying to slay the work world dragon... I stay active swimming, biking, hiking and mostly playing golf. A member of the District 04 NCGA golf club this year, I have qualified for the Tournament of Champions in my first season. My wife Jill and I celebrate anniversary #30 next month (10-2012) with a trip to hike around Yosemite. College UCLA was a dream time in my life... lot's af great times and some adventures. Being a Design Major prepared me for the working world, ev...Expand for more
en if the design fields would be tough to make good monies in. Getting classes done by 1:00 and then going to the beach with friends was a true joy and I still remember it fondly... then going to work until midnite was one of those "adventures" Workplace In 1977, I entered the interior design/space planning field out of UCLA in Century City. After some years and doing wotk in LA for Orange Julius, Winchell's Donuts, EF Hutton and more, Jill and I made the move to No. Cal. in 1984, when I went to work for what woould become CRS Sirrine in San Francisco. I found in 1986, that I had an aptitude for sketch planning which was extremely well received in the commercial real estate community. That lead me to be a Director for San Francisco based Fitschen & Associates, where I ran the Concord office. In 1995, along with one of the staff, we made an offer to buy the Concord office and did, Creating Ryan & Moore. Two years of my partner working to manage me caused the end of that firm. After a couple of failed attempts to latch on with other firms, in 2000, Ryan Design Group became a reality and I haven't looked back. The commercial real estate community has again embraced our efforts and we are doing quite well. While having to cease running for fitness, I ride my bike almost daily, swim regularly and play golf every week, all year long... Still longing for that single digit handicap. I have been married to the love of my life, Jill since 1982 and we have two sons, Sean (born in '83) and Patrick (Born in '85). Sean has made me a grandfather with his son Gavin (born in '05) and Patrick worked in Congresswoman Ellen Tauscher's Walnut Creek office before moving to LA and working his way up to being a department head at a disability law firm by LAX. We congregate with business associates and friends every summer at Lake Tahoe and would hope to have friends join us when they can there!

43 years ago this day, Jill & I looked like this. She has been the most exemplary partner I could have had in this life and I am forever grateful. I’d respectfully ask for the 43 more years but we all know how that works.
The beauty is everywhere
The traditional continues
A shorter stay this summer but highest quality time
This guy is an Ace! Over land, water or whatever. Jim is simply one of the best people I know - and I have known him since 1971.
This shirt is hereby retired. Love the frisbee theme and I hope this Tahoe Frisbee time continues
I am beyond proud to experience the 4th of July 2025 playing golf looking at the San Francisco Bay with great friends
One year in Vacaville! Hard to believe but there goes those days and months simply sprinting down the home stretch.
What a great grandson I have! 20 years I have known him and he has always been a treat. Headed off to a big University soon and we couldn’t be prouder!

Jill awaits the moving day at the new home. Interior is painted… awaiting some carpet and cleaning. Very exciting to downsize. Now if we can only find 4 trucks to haul all then unused stuff away…
Ending our 2nd week in Vacaville. The house is coming together though there are still things to fix/replace. Jill Ryan is loving going to the pool in the late afternoons and getting some movement time in as well as meeting
Jill poses next to our planets healthy contribution. Thrilled to not buy gas anymore!
The choice to drive a car/truck is a personal one and here in the USA we have plenty of choices. Jill Ryan and I have driven some great vehicles in our lifetime but all of those have used gasoline which meant spewing off-bu
