More about Chris:"Well, let's just do a little funny story here: That photo is from a formal dinner held around '03 or '04. An exquisite meal at some ritzy hotel in Chicago (maybe the Drake?) ending with my first taste of créme brulée --- though I didn't know its name at the time. The lighting was a little dim, so all I saw was a shallow ramekin of smooth yellow custard. I dove in with my spoon, only to bounce off and be thwarted by a hard surface and a "tink"-ing sound! Thoughts crossed my mind of calling out, "Uh, waiter, there's some glass on top of my dessert!" Fortunately, though, I was smart enough to dig in a little harder and discovered that it was just a shell of solidified sugar, which was /supposed/ to be there!".
