Chris's Story

Glad to see so many familiar names! 50 years.! I guess what our parents said about 'time flying' was so true. Lost my dad in '17, and mom in '19. Many of you may remember her as the school nurse at Washington and Franklin schools from the late '60s through late 80s.. I'd guess many of us are experiencing end-of-life issues with our parents - love will get you through! Married Mary Ann (nee Marchese - Lodi '71) in 1982 and loved having her son RJ (7 at the time) accept me as his dad. I struggled for years finding work that kept my interest - it was tough. We moved to Durham NC back in 1990 - had to get out of NJ to seek a better life. However, I was still struggling with holding a job. Then in '95, I was diagnosed with ADHD and our lives completely changed. Landed an entry level position at IBM at the age of 43 and retired as an account manager in 2021. Yay for retirement!! We tried for 10 years to have a child together without success. C...Expand for more
ouldn't afford IVF back then. Then my wife took a position at the Duke FCU. Talking to her coworkers, they informed her that IVF was included in her insurance. Wow! After three attempts, we were blessed with Brennan, 29 now. My older son and wife Jo live nearby and gifted us with two wonderful grandchildren - Sammie is 24 and just graduated from ECU, and Vincent just turned 18 last week - plans tbd ;) Enjoying retirement so much. Fixing up the property, a little remodeling. And golf! Love it so much, I took a part-time job back in March at the Duke University Golf Course as an outside staff member. Was just what I needed - lost 25 lbs and have never been in better shape! But the real benefit? Free golf anytime I wish to play on a fantastic course. Currently about a 6 handicap. (lost my yearbook in a flood in '77. Hope to find a copy some day) Before I reach the TMI threshold, let me sign off by wishing you all health and happiness! Chris
