Christina's Story
Life
3 children (17yr old daughter, 15 year old daughter, 6year old son). Military family. Have been stationed in Germany, Texas and South Carolina, and now Alabama. Traveled all over Germany and Paris. Both my daughters are A B honor roll and NJHS. My oldest daughter is a senior in highschool and my other daughter is in 9th grade. Husband is currently in Korea for 1 year and due back in september of 2007.
My son is in 1st grade. Hopefully there will be no more military moves since my husband will be retiring within 4 years after his return home giving him a total of 30 years in service. Kudos to him for his dedication to this country.
Workplace
Attended college and got a nursing degree. Worked in North florida and Alabama. Then husband rejoined the military and spent 4 years in Germany so when I returned to the states my liscense had expired so I continued a career with AAFES (Army Airforce Exchange Service). First as a cashier then as a shift manager and a store manager for a training base in South Carolina. Now we are in Alabama. Arrived here in August and I got a supervisors position with AAFES but just recently got a promotion to a Sales Area Managers postion. I run all the clothing areas within the facility and also manager the electronics department also known within the military community as the Power Zone. ...Expand for more
At first I hated it, but it has grown on me and its turned out to be interesting. Never a lack of something to do. My husband has recently been removed from the family scene once again by the military, he has been sent to Korea for a year so once again I am a single mother raising 3 kids and working 40++ hours a week. About now, what I wouldn't do for at least a couple of hours of me time and to actually hang out with some friends. But, theres no time for friends or myself, but thats okay because I have been blessed with 3 healthy children of which the 2 oldest help out quite a bit considering they are teenagers!!!
The military life has been kinda hard on them, having to make friends everywhere we go then turn around and leave. I am proud of them because despite all they have to give up and all the changes, they keep going.
When you are constantly traveling it makes it really hard to have a career outside of the military. So I decided that AAFES was the path I would take and in 13 more years I will be able to retire from AAFES and then do what I really want to do and that is study Forensic Science. Thankfully, the military is going to pay a large percentage of my school which is great since I will have 3 other children to put monies out for college. All in all, its been challenging but its been a learning experience.
