Christina's Story

Life After High School I went to Basic Training and my Adavanced Individual Training at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. I graduated 9 days before I was to start college at Western Oregon University. Throughout my four years of school I worked as a model, as the entertainment director for the campus' television station, as a server at Applebee's and at the Oregon Military Academy. I also took Army ROTC classes and served as a Specialist in Oregon Army National Guard. I graduated college in August of 2000 with a BA in Law Enforcement and a minor in Military Science, I also recieved my commission as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army. I went back to Fort Leonard Wood for the Military Police Officer Basic Course, where I trained to be an Officer in the Military Police Corps. I graduated that course February 2001, then I flew to Seoul, Korea where I served as a Platoon Leader and Executive Officer for the 142nd Military Police Company. After serving a year there, I took 20 days leave at home then went to my new duty station, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, where I served as the Executive Officer of Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 705th Military Police Battalion. My Company directly supported the United States Disciplinary Barracks, the only maximum security prison in the Department of Defense. I was promoted to First Lieutenant at the beginning of April, 2002. In July of 2003 I was transferred to Headquarters & Headquarters Company, Combined Arms Center & Fort Leavenworth. Its a long name but basically it came down to me getting and hating an office job. The perks of this assignment was the free time I aquired. I started taking classes to achieve my Masters degree, which I am one paper away from achieving now (will be done by September 2010, yup took a little break from school). I also had the opportunity to go to many military schools and serve as the escorting officer for the Army G3, Lieutenant General Cody, on his monthly visits to Fort Leavenworth. It was also at this assignment that I made the hard decision to exit the military and pursue my law enforcement career. So on October 10, 2004 I was Honorably Discharged from the Army and moved back home to Milton-Freewater, OR. On April 11, 2005 I was involved in a head-on collision with a semi-truck on I-5 South after a job interview. I am truly blessed to b...Expand for more
e alive and walking. My 4Runner was completly distroyed and I had to be taken by ambulence to the hospital in Lacey, WA for extensive followup. This accident slowed the job search but did not completely stop it, I was unable to do anything really physical for a long time. Again, I am very blessed. In December of 2005 I was hired on to the Walla Walla Veterans Administration Police Department. All the VA's in the country are patrolled by there own Federal Law Enforcement Officers. Before I headed off to the Police Academy in Little Rock, Arkansas I rejoined the Army National Guard of Oregon in January of 2006. I went to the Academy and worked as a Police Officer until December 2007 when I went to work for the Oregon National Guard full-time in Salem, OR. When I rejoined the Guard I was a First Lieutenant and served as the Executive Officer for the 1186 Military Police Company, Detachment 1 in Milton-Freewater, OR. When I came on full time in the Guard I moved to the West Linn area and became the Commander for the 1186 MP Company in Salem. I served as the Commander until April of 2009 and then conducted my Change of Command ceremony and became the 821 Troop Command Battalion's Assistent S-3. Which means I was the second officer in charge of training/budget for the 4 Company's in the Battalion. In April of 2009 I started working full time as the Project Officer for the Oregon National Guard State G-3. I handle special projects and additional assignments as necessary for my boss. I am once again working on my Masters Degree, my boss has ordered me to get it done by September 2010 so I'm in the process of accomplishing that goal. I'm halfway through my final paper and it's progressing very well. My orders for this job end at the end of September and I'm pushing for an assignment on the East Coast hopefully in Washington D.C at the National Guard Bureau, but we will see, I know something great will happen. This last year has been very transformative for me, I've lost 20lbs, started seeing a spiritual mentor and grown-up/gained a lot of perspective. I'm happier than I have ever been and I'm truly excited about the future. My parents are still in Milton-Freewater and my beautiful younger sister is living/working in Eugene, OR. I'll keep things updated as I progess. I hope your lives are full of peace and happiness...
