Christine's Story
After graduation, I went to Cerritos College for awhile, but then I got married and had 3 children. I went back to Cerritos when my youngest was about a year old and completed with my ADN-Associate Degree in Nursing in 1979. I took the RN boards and passed and worked as an RN at Downey Community Hospital. I got my BSN at CSU Long Beach in 1982. I worked in nursing for many years mostly in critical care and dialysis.
I divorced my 1st husband and moved to Orange County in 1983. I worked for Parker Hannifin Biomedical and traveled for a couple of years and that is where I met my 2nd husband. That marriage ended after only 2 years due to his addiction to alcohol, which eventually led to his death. That marriage led me to Al-Anon where I realized that I had been surrounded by alcoholism all my life and didn't recognize it. I started working in a substance abuse treatment hospital in Orange and eventually became the Director of Nursing and then the Assistant Administrator. That company (CareUnit) went out of business and I got a job at South Coast Medical Center as the Director of Behavioral Medicine. I also married again, for the 3rd time!
I decided that I wanted to pursue graduate education and went back to CSU Long Beach to earn my MSW (Master of Social Work) in 1991. I became licensed (LCSW) in 1994. I worked for 6 years in child welfare services and then transferred ...Expand for more
to behavioral health where I was a clinic director for 18 years. I retired from the County of Orange in 2007 and went to work at CSU Fullerton where I was the Director of Field Education for the new (I was the 1st faculty hired) MSW Program. I retired from the University in July 2015 and now I work part time as a consultant for Riverside University Health Systems-Behavioral Health in the Desert Cities. I provide clinical supervision for student interns and staff. I live in Indio, CA now.
I have a 7 yo granddaughter from my son and a 19 mo old grandson from my youngest daughter. In addition, I have 3 grandchildren (23, 21, 19) from my step-son, and an 11 mo. old grandson from my step-daughter. I adore them all! Recently I learned that I have another step-daughter, that my husband never knew he had. She is a lovely woman and I hope I get to meet her in person one day.
And, as we speak, I am divorcing again. All I can say is that I gave it my all. After 29 years, I was lonelier with him than I was by myself. It has been a hard adjustment, I had hoped that he would overcome his past and allow himself to be loved and to give love in return. But, I needed to get back to being me, because I got lost. One should never sacrifice themselves--lesson learned. So, now 7 months later, I am ready to venture out into the dating world. I have no expectations, I just "wanna have fun"!
