Christine's Story

My life has taken many turns not unlike a condensed version of mapquest.com. Moving from NY to CA in 1966 introduced new people and directions. Married and divorced like many, but emerged with two great kids who are university educated and successful. Grandchildren have arrived and I am always thrilled to indulge them when I can. I never realized how being a grandmother could produce such joy during visits and such pain in separation. My work world began in the 80s after finishing my MFA at the University of California. For a couple years I was a LA mural artist. After moving to Dallas with my family, I began to teach art and humanities at the local colleges and exhibit my black and white photography. For 6 years, I worked as an executive director of an arts council and grantwriter for the arts. I completed my PHD/Humanities under the rubric of Transformative Learning and Change in 2010. In the middle 1990s, I joined a Dallas land development company as general manager and subsequently moved to Vancouver, BC in 2002 as a result of a transfer. I returned to Dallas in 2009 from BC after the company collapsed as a result of the global economic recession. My experience in financial management and strategy development enabled me to land a position with an international social service organization in Dallas. I resigned this position in 2010 when it was determined that my dad's fragile health meant that he could no longer take care of himself. In 201...Expand for more
2, my dad quietly passed on in Colorado Springs. Since then I have traveled to South Africa to live with my brother for a short time and returned to the US. I currently live in Washington State where I am an independent nonprofit strategist, investment proposal writer, and remote project manager for a tech company in Vancouver, BC. In 2017, my partner, Jim, and I moved to the Long Island peninsula at the south end of the state just north of the Columbia River. This area's claim to history is embodied in the Lewis and Clark expedition. This area was their last stop on their journey. As always, life takes unexpected turns when you least expect them. When we moved to our home, Jim, died a month later from cardiac arrest. Mourning was crowded by my Estate executor duties and maintaining our home on Willapa Bay. I started an Airbnb suite, see the The Writer's Hearth, Ocean Park, WA. The summer is the high season, but visitors arrive during the winter to see the dynamic Pacific during storms. The Long Beach peninsula is a destination place with festivals, oyster and clam eating, and trails to walk and bike, see funbeach.com. My New England style home is across the street from the bay and a short mile from the Pacific. Grey clouds are a constant, but the mild temperatures do not deter tourists, nor visitors. My 22 hens and dogs, Barkley and Bronte, keep me busy along with business writing and tech development management. Please check in and say hi.
